This is the fundamental flaw here: This isn't an argument. It's not even a discussion anymore, it's just "I'm right, you're wrong." Is this just supposed to turn into some moping echo chamber of how nothing will ever be good again? I actively choose not to partake in that to a level that it disrupts other discussion. I guess it's whoever's prerogative if they want to, but I can't imagine how that doesn't get tiring.

No one is arguing that NYR are playing amazing hockey and can't get wins. No one is refuting that they aren't playing well. People are trying to just not be f***ing miserable and calling everything and everyone in the organization a complete biological and/or logistical failure after things don't go perfectly every single game. I understand people have as much of a right to voice their ideas and opinions, but it becomes insufferable. I'm not even old and I'm too old to work myself into a state of rage and despondence because NYR aren't playing well.
I would like to see things go perfectly for even one game if that’s ok.

ITT: Pointing out that the Rangers played one competent period of hockey out of 3, which included a 2 shot 3rd period while they were up a goal, is now “Stop complaining that they don’t play perfectly all the time!”

Some real positives out of this game:

1. Zibby looked great.
2. Kakko and Kreider had strong games.
3. Georgy looked solid.
4. I actually liked Hajek in this game. Had some real bright moments. (Didn't really like Nemeth).
5. We had a phenomenal second period. And a pretty decent 3rd. The one goal we let up wasn't anyone's fault really. Maybe Georgy could have been a bit bigger in the net on it, but otherwise, the D was fine enough.
6. I liked Laff's game minus a few neutral zone passes. He hustled, hit, looked pretty good to me.
7. I mostly liked the team's effort. I wish we had a few more shifts in the Vegas zone in the third, but we really did shut them down the whole period. The goal wasn't great luck.

Not so good.
1. 4th line was outplayed most of the game.
2. Rooney
3. Strome looked really poor. Didn't engage physically the whole game. Just didn't seem to show up.
4. Chytil had some bonehead plays. But his hustle was mostly noticeable. And he and Laff were far more effective in the game than Strome.
5. Nemeth needs to stop backing out and seeding space. He doesn't play with the kind of confidence you'd expect from a veteran.

I’d give Lundkvist with Hajek a try when the Swede is back healthy - Hajek earned a chance IMO. I hope that at least these two become a rotation (can’t expect them completely taking over) with Nemeth when his game starts to slip.

PS agree with everything in your post btw

you watch, he’s going to have a career as a productive bottom sixer.
He’s got the speed and the hustle, but he’s still young and developing.
That said, his time was done as a ranger. Overused constantly to the detriment of other players by Quinn when he should have been in the AHL.
He needed to be traded away. Figures he gets 2 points though and sticks us.
With our experience with him, you kinda forget that he was a first round pick.

Yea I know right. He was actually above Cirelli and Colton etc on Tampa’s Depth chart at center.
I know Hajek was a must have piece back for McD and Miller. Namestenikov wasn’t, he was the vet throw in for Balance. The 1st we turned into Nils which was also a given that their 1st be involved.
But I’d love to know if Yzerman gave gorts the choice of Cirelli/Howden/colton etc
I doubt it was Howden or nothing. I’m guessing when Sergachev and Foote we’re off the table, everyone else was in play and Gorts had some other options......
To top it off, if they get their shit together a year earlier, we would have at least got another mid-late 1st rounder. But of course, they have to win the cup the following year. Typical ranger luck.
Then the awful luck on the zucc conditions. Series tied 3-3, were one goal away from getting at least one first rd pick back. Dallas was playing great and were tearing it up. They lose in OT.
Oh well, at least Zucc played really well for them. They are going to resign him, well def get at least one first rd pick, just a year later. Does that happen?? Of course not, the wild swoop in and give Zucc an extra year for the same pay. The stars don’t match and ranger luck rears it’s ugly head again....
Oh to have been a fly on the wall

overall, I thought as a whole we played well as a team. I thought Geo did well, when we needed the big save late, he couldn’t deliver. But he did make some quality saves during the game. The best thing I saw was his response. He didn’t crumble after 2-2. He had a solid OT/shootout. He gave the team a chance to win, that’s all you can ask out of your back up.
Still, it was very disappointing to lose the way we did. Zibby wins every faceoff he took last night, (14-4) except the one to Brett Howden cleanly, that leads to the tying goal late. I mean maybe we should have expected Howden to have a good game, after all they always come back to bite us. But this one really hurt. We had this game. we dominated the second period completely. Best period we played all season. Even the coach said so.

Zibby looked like he’s picking up his play. Besides the goal, which was an absolute snipe, his pass to kreider had eyes on it to get thru all those legs/traffic.
Thought Nemeth-Hajek was good. Solid. What you expect out of your 3rd pair.
How could he have threaded that needle? With two guys in his path. He had to be lucky on that one. Even Panarin doesn't thread it through two defenders directly in the path.

I'm also impressed with Hajek's play. To think if Tinordi didn't get sent down for conditioning, he never would have gotten a chance to play.

Wow, you remember this like it happened yesterday.

completely agree. How we lost, and the guy(s). That figured in primarily on the scoring was an absolute kick to the sack....
I agree Zibby was pretty lucky to sneak that puck thru. That sucker had a mind of its own. I’m sure he knew kreider was there and he wanted to move it quick.
It looks like a set play they run and practice a lot.
He was probably surprised as the rest of us that it actually made it thru to Kreids with some steam on it.
His goal thru the legs using the Defenseman as a screen was straight Filth.
That’s what he’s capable of doing when he gets on one of his crazy goal scoring streaks.
That’s why it’s so frustrating to see him have so few goals this far into the season.
It makes you think, with a shot and vision like that, he should be shooting that laser beam at least 5 times a game at the net.
I really hope that game upped his confidence in the goal scoring department and he starts beating up.
This team is going to need plenty more goals over the course of the season, and Zibby should be the 1st or 2nd guy leading us in that category.

it’s possible he might have stopped at Lavo or the wayfarer before the game. Maybe even Peter Lugers in Brooklyn if he had some extra time for a prime rib rare. Cause he was shooting the puck like the Zibby of old...

Two or three games back, you could tell he was feeling it. He was flying all over the ice. I said then he is gonna go on a tear. Whenever he has that extra gear, you know the goals and points will follow. It feels like he hadn't had a breakaway all season. Now he has had two in two games. And you don't get them unless you put on the jets. It's almost impossible to play like a superstar for 82 games. It's still early in the season. There is plenty of time for him to climb up to the league leaders in scoring.

That pass to Kreids was an excellent play all around. Cause even if it didn't get through, with the way he was positioned on the ice and where the defenders were in front of the net,.... There was a chance the puck could have deflected in, off of one of them with that hard pass.

A successful Lundkvist-Hajek joint venture would take some of the sting off The Trade.

We have like one game the rest of the year, then we'll have to catch up to everyone again, so we can have 7 games in 10 days again.

Is every other night so much to ask?
we have 4 games but your point still stands.

The scheduling has been a disaster. Then I look at a team like Tampa, they barely even left the east coast. They just now went on their 1st west coast trip and only had 2 b2bs sprinkled in.. The discrepancy is amazing.

we've had 6 b2b's. with limited time off and insane travel. No time to rest. No time to practice. It's amazing the record we've had. We've been on empty for some time.

Hopefully this break allows them to get some solid r-and-r.

I was proud of how the team fought against Vegas all things considered. I can't believe some "fans" legit are using a skills competition loss to a good team when we've played 7 games in 11 days and without two of their three best players as proof this team can't play with the big boys.
