I mean let's be real. As much as Byram was a pure stud on the Cup run year. His severe concussion issues and sliding metrics made him damaged goods.

Adams was probably the only one that would make this type of move for an asset that should have netted the Sabres a 1st and a quality prospect.

Not an expert on him. But everything I'm reading so far is he's one more bad headshot from early retirement. He's only 22yrs old BTW. I hope that this is wrong.
For sure that is a concern-but I remember the same being said of Crosby. I liked what Casey brought to the team but I guess the brass think Savoie, Ostlund or whoever can fill the bill. It was time to move F for D -now to see if it was the right D we got even though he is LD!

What I have is a history with working in a team environment with high expectations among everyone involved, with people to answer to above us, and very clear goals to achieve that define success or failure. Many people, it turns out, do not have the slightest clue as to the manner in which to bring the best out of a team, especially when under stressful circumstances. In comparison a sports team, even at the pro level, is a less stressful environment but the standards are much the same. If there are a few in a group that need to have an attitude adjustment there are several better ways to achieve that than to get rid of one of the few good examples of the group. It was a faulty and possibly ignorant point. I'm not pulling punches on tha

Are you serious? The message is louder and clearer if you actually trade the the person who underperforms. Like the ones the GM gave long term contracts to? You don’t trade performers, you trade your mistakes. And before the the gotta give to get crowd chimes in, we didn’t need Byram so we didn’t need to give up a c.
Am I serious about what? I didn't make a point about the matter, just about the communication. You may be correct, however it doesn't mean other viewpoints/perspectives are wrong, or even mutually exclusive. I don't even think the other poster suggested intent on behalf of management, but a potential outcome. I don't see anything wrong with what was said, even though it might not occur.

I don't think this was sending a message, or a cap move, or an indication they werent willing to sign Mitts. I think they wanted to improve the D and saw Mitts as expendable based on who they already have signed and who they have coming. Disagree with that all you want, but it's far from an absurd line of thought.
Buffalo has a lot of good prospects at center (Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, Wahlberg, Rosen) so the trade can be understood; hoping that Byram stays healthy. And in the draft in July, there are several quality right-handed defensemen.

I always enjoy your balanced outside takes on the Sabres!

No Buffalo doesn't. The only center prospect is Ostlund, with Savoie having an outside shot. All the other prospects will be wingers

There might be one center of Mittelstadt caliber in that group and he's years away.
I like Savoie but I only see Östlund as that middle six two way center we need.

Thank you, and for the record theres no history here as I rarely post. I was/am a big Mitts fan and while I don't agree with the risk the Sabres took in this trade, I can see at least why they made it as an attempt at a home run swing to fix their D longterm and have tried to be positive about it. But in response I get comments like this, and others telling us rarer posters to "get back under our rocks". Really great community here at HF Sabres these days, really makes folks want to stick around and be part of the discourse. Hopefully the respect and standards improve once the team does, whenever that will be.

Try not to take it personally. Misanthropes like to spread their misery in all directions.

I agree, but they also have Tage/Cozens/Krebs. I know everyone thinks they are bad now, but it's not like we have nothing at C.

They Still have 5 great forwards prospects ….don't like the exchange too (especially since Byram is left-handed and fragile) but I thought pointing out a little positive to Buffalo fans would be welcome.

Even if all those guys were legit C prospects, this trade delays the competitive window by having to wait on those guys to develop. It's going backward when clearly the objective should be to move forward with more veteran guys that can help the team win now. The only thing that can make sense of this trade is if another one happens for a guy like Lindholm. None of us believe that's actually a plan though.

Posters for the past 18+ months.
"Trade for a top 4 D"

Adams trades for top 4 D.

Same posters.
"Not like that"
Are we sure he's a top 4 on the Sabres? Seems like a terrible fit with Dahlin and Power.
Maybe if we go Power-Dahlin, Byram-Jokiharju?
