You could just quote me next time
Not going to bat just playing Devil's advocate because this isn't 1:1 black and white, cut and dry. The woman was taken advantage of to a degree - but how bout you leave the hotel room if it's that bad?
If it got physical and they forcibly prevented her from leaving the room then she wouldn't even be talking to Player #1 the following day and called the cops herself.
What our society is struggles with in these situations is not acknowledging that there is a very problematic gray area between full consent to a sexual act and the use of physical force/violence to force someone into an act. A victim can feel like they have to comply bc they fear what might happen if they dont. In these cases, they are not consenting even if they arent being physically forced or expressing no. The defense in these situations is just that, i didnt force them and they didnt say no, which is true, but its the total lack of empathy to recognize that they put this person in this situation thats uncomfortable and intimidating thats the on going issue. We are seeing this a lot with these young athletes bc theyre apart of a culture thats made the self absorbed, entitled, and normalized inviting your friends to have their way with a girl without considering how intimidating thatll be for her.
It reminds me of the IASIP episode where Dennis tells Mac he wants to bring girls put on their boat to sleep with them bc theyll have no choice bc of the "implication" of danger. Mac questions him and Dennis, whos a physcopath, justifys it bc if they said no hed stop but "they wont say no".
And yes... all of these players are innocent until proven guilty...but the "well she went along with it didnt she?" take is why this is a major on going problem.
