Grew up in Northeast Philly where just about everyone was drunk and or high 100% of the time every weekend starting at like 15 years old, and never once heard of this type of thing happening. Anyone trying to normalize it is wrong.

You've never heard of people being sexually assaulted? It's not rare, sorry to say.

Also, no one in this thread has tried normalizing it. Unfortunately, it seems people aren't thoroughly reading the discussions

Maybe it’s another Duke lacrosse, Trevor Bauer, or Matt Araiza situation?

It’s not like false sexual assault allegations never happen.

Hart is entitled to a defense, & best-case-scenario he is able show his innocence.
Stranger things have happened. And he’s certainly entitled to due process in the actual courts.

In the court of public opinion though, that’s a different story. And given how things have played out, with hockey canada paying off the victim, forcing her to sign an NDA trying to silence her, etc. I certainly think it’s more than likely (i might even say overwhelmingly likely) that the victim’s version of events is accurate.

Whether that can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt (or whatever the equivalent standard in canadian courts) could be a different matter.

But unless they’re fully exonerated, I’d have a hard time seeing any of these 5 on my favorite team, let alone rooting for them.

The typical sexual assault perpetrated by 1 scumbag is not equal to 5 guys running a train on a drunk girl.

This is true...sadly

"Sexual violence is common.
Over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. One in 4 women and about 1 in 26 men have experienced completed or attempted rape."

I read a Stephen King book once where the punishment for such a thing was to have a glass bottle used to make the criminal feel exactly how the victim felt.

If they resisted the top of the bottle was broken before use.

I’ve first hand heard of hockey guys video taping some encounters with girls, maybe a few of them involved - so I’m sure it does happen. Doesn’t make it ok.

The Duke Lacrosse incident is often referenced every single time any athlete is accused, but that is a unique situation that likely is not happening again. The Duke situation was completely mishandled to the point of criminal negligence. As in, the prosecutor actually served jail time for it. Everything moved blindingly fast with terrible processes and no diligence.

None of that is in evidence here, and I think it is very negative to accuse authorities blindly of being criminally poor with this process. We need to strive for positivity.

There was a case against a Flyer just 12 years ago. He spent weeks in prison, though the charges were later dropped.

Not trying to normalize anything, but I remember this happened with a rugby league team in NZ about 20 years ago. So I was never shocked by something similar apparently happening with young hockey players.

I remember this. Sent Pretty big shockwaves through the community.

Unfortunately, I've seen the other side of this with my local rugby team. It was a well run scam in France to target travelling rugby teams with false rape claims, in the hope that they would settle out of court before anything hit the press. Complete with bent police officers and a Justice system.

This all got highlighted, when a targeted player was named as the "ring leader" was gay and the club fought the charges.

I grew up there as well, I definitely heard of girls at that time getting trains ran on them but at the time it was framed as consensual & nothing ever came of it but in hindsight that’s tough to say whether that’s true or not. Someone would probably be more willing to sound the alarm on that now opposed to then if it wasn’t consensual.

This was around the mid to late 2000’s. It might not seem like too long ago but a lot has certainly changed since then society wise on top of looking through a teenage lens at that time.

Matt Araiza? Trevor Bauer? Both very recent. Both lost their jobs and were torched in social media over false allegations.

I’m sure the team knew this was coming to,
We all know in their silly ways they are trying to win.

Why was Hart playing last few games when he knew he was essentially f***ed.
