I grew up there as well, I definitely heard of girls at that time getting trains ran on them but at the time it was framed as consensual & nothing ever came of it but in hindsight that’s tough to say whether that’s true or not. Someone would probably be more willing to sound the alarm on that now opposed to then if it wasn’t consensual.

This was around the mid to late 2000’s. It might not seem like too long ago but a lot has certainly changed since then society wise on top of looking through a teenage lens at that time.

One thing I will say that regularly happened when I was high school that nothing really happened back then but kids now a days get in a lot of trouble for is sending out nude pictures of girls.

Granted it was the earlier stages of social media & smart phones so it was probably harder to track & schools/law enforcement probably didn’t even know how to handle it at that point even if they wanted to.

I'm very curious to learn more details of course but also more about the timeline. It seems all teams in question handled this the same way, but if they essentially knew that Hart was very likely involved in this, kind of off putting that they just continue to suit him this season

Stranger things have happened. And he’s certainly entitled to due process in the actual courts.

In the court of public opinion though, that’s a different story. And given how things have played out, with hockey canada paying off the victim, forcing her to sign an NDA trying to silence her, etc. I certainly think it’s more than likely (i might even say overwhelmingly likely) that the victim’s version of events is accurate.

Whether that can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt (or whatever the equivalent standard in canadian courts) could be a different matter.

But unless they’re fully exonerated, I’d have a hard time seeing any of these 5 on my favorite team, let alone rooting for them.
I don't know. The fact that it has taken over 5 years to bring charges makes me wonder. That is not what tends to happen when there's clear and convincing evidence of a crime.

That said, I would not be surprised to see teams seek to void these players' contracts. It is not a situation you want attached to your team.

I'm sure exactly zero people here are surprised you are the one "wondering" about this

Complex sexual assault cases can commonly take years to resolve.

The Flyers have put together the best goalie prospect pool since Blackhawks had Belfour/Hasek/Joseph.

You don't do that with Canada's best U25 goalie and your crease solved for the next decade. There's too much smoke here to not be fire.

Look, hart is my favorite player, only current jersey I have. And maybe I'm just expecting the worst so that if it happens it's easier to stomach. but this looks bad.

I'm not libeling anyone by citing factual examples of recent cases that should remind people not to leap to conclusions of guilt.

And I'm reminding you, who has a "rich" history of misogyny, that always assuming and insinuating that women are lying without evidence isn't welcome or productive. You are making very specific comparisons. We were not allowing premature accusations against Hart. We will not allow the same towards the woman.

This is gonna be the end of it. I'll start cleaning going forward.

The Turn™ comes to every thread eventually.

I for one am very confident and positive that we can move on without shifting the focus to the victim, as it is very possible to optimistically state that perhaps Hart can be absolved without also insinuating the victim or judicial system could be lying.
