I'm with you on this. He has always seemed like a good kid. The stories about his relationship with his billet family. His community work. The reason he changed his jersey number to 79. The maturity to talk about the mental health aspect of the sport at such a young age. So on and so forth. It all adds up and gave us no reason to not think he was a decent person. Hopefully he's not guilty of this, but if he is...well...little did we know I guess.

It’s not a conversation the world is largely ready to have, but good people do make mistakes. The worst thing you did in your life can be an outlier. Or it can be the impetus for a person to change.

Even if Carter Hart is guilty as sin of this thing 6 years ago, it doesn’t mean he’s a horrible person now.

But he does need to own up to his actions, take responsibility and face the consequences.

If this incident turns out the way that it looks as if it will with convictions for rape and jail time for the offenders, these NHL clubs need to do a better job of vetting guys that they are going to bring into their organizations. A guy just doesn't flip a switch and go from a decent civil person into a sexual predator, drug user or some other type of degenerate over night. This vetting of potential draftees, FAs or trade targets is an area where the Flyers need to sharpen up.

You are drafting teenagers. Unless they've already done something, I find it hard to believe you are going to reliably weed out these guys with interviews

Unfortunately, stuff like this isn't that rare with teenage males
