This is ultimately speculation on my part, but if Briere knew Hart's leave of absence was unrelated to the investigation, you have to think he would have said so.

I want to stress that the people in the room did their jobs and kept asking the same question in different ways. They gave him at least half a dozen angles to do this.

regardless of hockey, Hart always seemed like a decent enough guy. Got to spend some time with him at Flyers events and he was always cordial and seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.

This is just massively disappointing and terrible. I hope the victim can find some semblance of peace when this is all over. Because the details of this case are pretty awful.
I guess we'll have to wait and see until more details emerge, but of all the players on the team Hart probably would've been the last one I expected to be involved in something like this.

Why? We don't know Hart. Why do fans pretend to know anything about these guys character?
It's human nature to rely on the evidence of one's eyes, and what we see of people is their public persona. Naturally, absent conflicting evidence, we assume that what we see is, on some level, fundamentally true, because operating constantly as if it's not will, more often than not, put you in conflict with reality.

That said, one piece of evidence we do have from long experience is that public personas are just that, and some people are less like the persona they present than others. It's just tiring living life as though everyone is always lying to you; sometimes you need to make assumptions just to get through the day.

You see a guy and how he behaves in public and his general demeanor and you form an opinion. To me he's always seemed like a genuinely good guy.

I'm with you on this. He has always seemed like a good kid. The stories about his relationship with his billet family. His community work. The reason he changed his jersey number to 79. The maturity to talk about the mental health aspect of the sport at such a young age. So on and so forth. It all adds up and gave us no reason to not think he was a decent person. Hopefully he's not guilty of this, but if he is...well...little did we know I guess.

Carter Hart in Canadian jail.
Carter should get that lawyer out in Denver to look after his concerns.
She done a marvellous job with # 24/8 issues…

Didn't seem like it to me.

It's also possible to be a "good guy" and make some terrible decisions during the course of your life. We also really don't know the specific facts alleged in this matter, assuming that Hart is one of the players alleged to be involved, which at this point, I think it's fair to assume that he is.

Wow this looks bad. There’s no defense to this at all, but I can’t even see the explanation of ‘I was drunk’ for Hart. I don’t see him drinking and getting sloppy. Which makes potential accusation even worse imo.

What we do know is that whoever was involved in this had the better part of 6 years to do something about it and did not make that choice.

Good people can do bad things

Do we know what actually happened? I’m not sure if I never knew or forgot at this point

Drafting those goalies this year , they knew.
If this incident turns out the way that it looks as if it will with convictions for rape and jail time for the offenders, these NHL clubs need to do a better job of vetting guys that they are going to bring into their organizations. A guy just doesn't flip a switch and go from a decent civil person into a sexual predator, drug user or some other type of degenerate over night. This vetting of potential draftees, FAs or trade targets is an area where the Flyers need to sharpen up.

Yes I think so. I think we all had an uneasy feeling.

Terrible for the victim and I’m glad those guilty will be punished, but from a hockey standpoint - you didn’t want to sign him to a large contract. With some of the goalies rumored available, I’m not sure you get a massive return either. Probably a 1st+.

The players were probably told to let Hockey Canada deal with it until the shit hit the fan there what a year or two ago due to this incident.
