Also, throwing this out there:

They've not won a playoff game since Bally stopped having me work.

Pay me!

Also, throwing this out there:

They haven't won a ECF game since I was in middle school. I missed Game 7 in '06 because I was at the aquarium for my 6th grade EOY overnight field trip.

Sponsor me to go to the aquarium on Wednesday!

I'm no ref conspiracy person. I just thought the reffing was poor. We deserved more when we had the run of play and it changed the game for the Cats to get them instead. It happens. I just thought they were bad this game.

This is me, too. I'm not even mad, just kind of perplexed. I totally understand the 'let them play' officiating we get in the playoffs. I don't really like it, but i get it. But then they have a ~3 minute stretch in the second where we get hit with mutiple penalties - and they were letter of the law penalties - that just do not fit with the 'let them play' ethos. Like, where the hell does that even come from? And then that stretch is followed by no further calls. Well, at least until after the final horn, apparently.

I felt the same about the soft as baby shit call on kk in ot last game.

I just hate things i can't logic.

I was 19, but I was on a second date with my future wife at the Baltimore aquarium the day of game 7. Did get to watch the game though.

What sucks about this is that this is now 11 losses in a row in the same playoff round. It's nice to actually make the ECF but failing to win a game 3 trips in a row isn't going to help when it comes to the fan reactions this summer. It's going to end an otherwise fun playoff run with an incredibly bitter lasting impression that is going to overshadow the previous rounds, because this really was our best shot at the Cup so far, and possibly our cleanest path we'll see.

Worst part is, even if they win on Wednesday, that just means an opportunity to watch is now out meekly at home for the 3rd trip in a row, watching the trophy awarded to the other team yet again

It's not going to matter to 90% of Canes fans who weren't around for even the '09 run. For those of us who have been around, sure. But huge portions of Canes Twitter, Facebook, probably season ticket holders, and all the other groups that matter are newer fans who've come during this renaissance in the last few years.

Yeah but the analytics said we have to win every trade and they wanted like a lot of good players for him, and how is any team ever going to win the Cup by giving up a ransom for a Matthew Tkachuk

You're arguing against a whole field of strawmen at this point. Go to bed or play a video game or something and stop building more of them lol.

I mean even then it's still 7 straight losses in the ECF in recent years.

Everything you just said is spot on.

You're preaching to the choir with me. The refs have been dogshit since game 2; namely since the early OT penalty against KK after they didn't call so many things in the 3rd period.

They've been so wildly inconsistent with calls and non-calls. There's no excuse for it. None.

I guess I just don’t get the anger. They were the better team tonight, and arguably the better team in the previous two games. Florida simply has a goalie running red hot, and there’s not a lot that can be done when you’re dealing with that

It‘s a concept we should be familiar with, in both the positive and negative aspect. We won the Cup in the same way, and let’s not act like this is the first time the Canes have struggled to beat a red-hot goalie despite greatly outplaying the opponent.

Move on to the next game, pray Bob finally reverts back to a pumpkin and go from there.

I'm definitely frustrated by so many conference finals losses in a row. But obviously the 09 losses have almost zilch to do with this era of the Canes.

At least with the Pitt and Boston losses we were the worse, less talented team that was lucky to be there and running on fumes by the time we did get there.

This one is far more frustrating because in spite of everything that's not in our favor, we probably deserve better this time.

But it's still an accomplishment to make it this far even if it ultimately doesn't go our way.

Well I ain't even mad myself. But as a goalie, the goalie is part of the team. So even if you want to say our skaters have been better, that's fair but as a team we haven't been better.

Very true. This is one of the unique things about hockey that makes it so unpredictable. There's a wild card explicitly built into the structure of the game. Every team gets a wild card and you don't know what's going to happen until they playoffs when they all get revealed.

The craziest thing is that our goalies have also been lights-out. The past two games, nothing has gone by them which was at all stoppable. By absolutely all rights they deserve the Ws in those games, and in Game 1 as well for that matter. But then you've got the other guy, who's on an even hotter run. The closest thing to it in sports is an MLB pitchers duel, but even at that, in the modern game you don't take a pitchers duel to 18 innings.

The only analytics that matter here are Calgary analytics.

What does Carolina give up to beat Huberdeau+Weegar+1st? Calgary was willing to take the players with 1 year left because they planned to sign them. Carolina didn't have an equivalent offer to make.

Necas + Slavin + 1st? I don't even think that's enough to move Calgary away from the Florida deal.
