So I thought Guentzel was more sought after than Buchnevich? If this was the return for the "better player" then thank god we haven't traded Buch cus that return f***ing sucks lol
Actually, Guentzel’s return likely reminds Armstrong, it’s probably the perfect time to trade Buchnevich, as they’d be lucky to get this return next deadline. His value will only decrease from here on out… and they can cash in later today if they want to.

Btw, this wasn’t a bad return for a pending UFA. They got two extra coin-flip prospects than a normal UFA to be….. People are just giving Pens fans a hard time because they threw all common sense out the window, to the point of being arrogant and dismissive to anyone talking common sense.. Still got multiple prospects though.

Buchnevich would get “Guaranteed” prospects, who “will” play in the NHL. The only question would be, how good they’ll end up being in the league, instead of their own coin-flip types next deadline.

If they trade him later today, the return will be substantially better than Guentzel’s. Especially if Armstrong retains half. Buchnevich for a full season and two playoff runs at under $3 million, is worth a big return….

I actually think it’s perfect timing.

I don’t think this is as terrible as some posters are posting.
I'm not gonna lie and say I wasn't highly disappointed when I heard the return. I wanted to do BAD things. But after researching a bit more I'm ''ok'' with it. There's possibilities. But with the Fin, the progression from last season to this one and being only 20 gives me some optimism. Also at worst got a mid 2hd rounder.

I have a strong feeling that is the sediment because he has every intention of signing with the Penguins again.
He Must be a glutton for punishment then. Hopefully he's gone long enough to come to his senses.

This is definitely a quantity over quality deal, but to be perfectly honest, it's a reasonable strategy to get as many guys who look like they MIGHT hit as possible. The majority of "blue chip prospects" about whom people on the internet get excited turn out like Eric Tangradi or Joe Morrow.

A UFA winger who has stated he won't sign an in-season extension simply wasn't going to bring back the sun and the moon. I was hoping for Morrow, but ultimately that was just based on Twitter BS from people who didn't know what they were talking about.

A rebuild doesn't happen from trading one guy. It's gonna take time and it's gonna suck for the Pens. But this is the reality of the league and it's not worth frothing at the mouth about it.

To Carolina fans...you are going to enjoy watching Guentzel! He's a great player and he'll score a bunch with Aho. Here's hoping the Canes make the finals!

But I thought he said (KD) He was looking for quality over quantity and did the opposite. I know we have a gutted prospect pool here, but I disagree with the about face and the quantity over quality strategy. The only positive is we can miss on a couple pieces and still do well. But we're looking 2-3 years to find out. I'm ok to wait but...

Frankly I think it was unlikely that Dubas was ever gonna get a top prospect, especially considering teams like Vancouver apparently balked at Dubas' asking price. A guy like Koivunen on top of picks and a roster player might legitimately be the best he was gonna do, in which case the bigger deal is that he didn't get a guaranteed first round pick.

I didn't expect the top prospect. Maybe 4th and 6th? Now if it was say just one prospect maybe 2hd or 3rd. The Canes might have the deepest prospect pool in hockey. Top five at a minimum. So, maybe it skews things because arguably their 5th or 6th best might be our 2hd or 3rd best.

Welcome to the real world Pens fans..
Life becomes much harder when your not good anymore,

You traded a rental..worse part is he was possibly your best asset.
This pleases me..
Jake will resign with the titanic no problem

I'm fantastic with a rebuild! I just wanna maximize our trade return in the interim.

I wouldn’t go that far. I hope so. I have nothing but love for Jake. But you do have to realize this is a guy that’s already won the cup. He’s a multiple 40 goal scorer. And is near the top active player playoff scoring… My heart says he resigns in Pitt. My brain tells me he’s gonna sign the largest deal he can find.

The more I look into it the less im offended. Don't get me wrong, wanted to do better. However because the Canes prospect pool is so deep, maybe I was bit more skeptical than need be. The one prospect we got immediately bolts to 2hd or 3rd in our system.
Glad you’re adjusting to the results. It’s just so far from what had been expected. A young 20 goal scorer in Hoglander, a top tier prospect in Lekkerimaki, a first and more is what I was repeatedly told would be the cost. I honestly don’t know these prospects well enough, but given time to develop they can sure end up playing games in the NhL.

You retain 25% of your best asset for Bunting and a late first.. how she goes..
The hard work starts now

I mean there's low hanging fruit in Sullivan, Ned, Smith, Ruh...And it's been quite a bit more relaxing being sellers to this point than wondering what we're going to give up for Zucker..... but certainly today and the Summer will dictate a LOT of this franchise's trajectory.

Karlsson can't improve a Sullivan led system. Won't matter who the hell we get from here on out so long as that dufus leads the charge.

Not really sure how this return is so bad. Every one of those prospects is basically from late 1st to mid 2nd in the redraft with accelerated arrival to the NHL. Would people really say it's a bad return if it was just those picks?

People seem to be obsessed with picks but the moment they materialize they are worth almost nothing, evidently. Just because people don't know the names of prospects or lose interest in them if they don't go in the top 20 or do something spectacular in the WJC.

I have no idea why anyone thought Vancouver was giving all that up for anyone, let alone a rental.

I agree, but was attacked when I said it and basically told I was a moron.

Was even told it would cost Lindholm and Hoglander at one point (Lindholm being flipped to Boston I presume). Hahahaha good times.
