I’d rather play a young guy from the Marlies for the league min instead of a washed up 40 year old.

Marleau was owed 4.250 but will now only get 3.833 of that after the buyout. He can sign with San Jose for the league minimum (0.700) and still be ahead in terms of actual dollars (4.533).

San Jose should and will welcome him with a bargain contract like that. It's a win-win.
