Been stressing the loss of McDonagh since like January. He's a legitimate shutdown D, he can be a #1 on a lot of teams. He was the key to their D IMO. Hedman is Hedman, we know what he's gonna do. But having a 2nd guy to crunch big minutes, and not just play big minutes but play them at a very high level is so important. We had a matchup nightmare last time cause of him. The guy is just so good, high IQ, he's mean and hits hard. That loss was massive for their blueline.
Sergachev is a nice offensive piece and all, but he doesn't bring the grit and defensive capabilities McDonagh has. Tampa fans mocked me for saying it was a crucial loss and the biggest reason why the Leafs will have the advantage this year. 3 games in, it is so noticeable.
