We really gotta be better with the puck in gm4. That was a difficult game to watch...paled in comparison to the possession we pushed in gm2. We seemed behind every play, breakouts were forced and difficult to string together any passes.

Good news, we won; better news - we know we have the ability to bust the game open, if TB takes a step back (after their blowout pushback)

Imma be real honest. I don't think I noticed him more than a couple times.

I guess he's doing something?

Not quite sure how his xGF% is calculated so high but its up there and the goals against thing is true.

Top 5 forwards on the Leafs for 5v5 xGF% and Goal differential (not including Bunting):

xGF%:
1. Matthews
2. Jarnkrok
3. Marner
4. Knies
5. Nylander

GF%:
1. Jarnkrok
2. Marner
3. Knies
4. Matthews
5. Kerfoot

Circumstantially Tampa comes back home after being curb stomped in game 2… they were going to respond tough.

The Leafs had trouble with that pace all night, unable to get up on the forecheck and missing passes.

But they did well in maintaining their overall composure, trying to slow the game down, and staying structured so they could grind it out.

Hopefully they have better legs tomorrow.

Nice to see Matthews get a goal.. but I was disappointed that he couldn’t use that as a jumping point to start dominating.
Listening to Colo and Mkke Johnson last week talk about what happens in the playoffs.

Any ex player says the same thing.

100% you don't have your legs every game. The idea that you can simply be the same player every night is fools gold.

The Leafs run into trouble because they have never figured out how to simplify the game when things are not working out. They still try to make cute passes and make high risk plays like when they are in sync.

Last night while most were upset with how it was happening, I was impressed that while they were getting caved in for a stretch they just made safe, smart plays and iced the puck. They did not press and they did the little things to win the war, not the battle.

Nylander was god awful defensively this game, it doesn't get stated enough. First goal was all on his lazy backcheck and the 3rd goal he didn't even react when the goalscorer entered his zone on the ice, no pressure at all.

Yeah, he factored in on the game tying goal but at what cost.. they need to staple him to ROR or Matthews.

Over the series at 5v5, we have the better expected goal share and equal goals.
Over the series in all situations, we have the better expected goal share and more goals.
We're up in the series 2-1, despite absolute clown show officiating and DOPS.
Looks like the better team to me.

Yeah, how dare Matthews/Marner/Tavares keep scoring goals. :eyeroll:

You miss the point. We have all seen this team that can score with talent and puts little effort when it matters the most. You can thank William Nylander and ROR for even getting the opportunity to be up 1 game. Then you can go thank ROR and Rielly for winning it.

Point being, this is not a dogged determination core, they disappear and playing like this again, they will be out in the 2nd round. I want to win it all this year and tbh, nothing less will do. Cap wise, it gets worse from here on out, so this is it, Dubas and Keefe's last hoorah.

I hope not to see another pathetic game like 1 and 3 again going forward. There is no excuse for it with our talent level.

Nylander was a passenger all night, even his forecheck was down right disgusting, I’ll give him credit for throwing the puck to the bet on the tying goal, but outside of that, my goodness just a no show effort.

There is not a team in the history of the league
Who won a cup that didn’t win games they didn’t deserve to win

Thewave- it doesn’t matter if marner is leading the team in scoring during the regular season it matters what he does in the playoffs

Thewave- it doesn’t matter that marner is leading the ENTIRE league in playoff scoring and playing élite defensively he isn’t preforming in the playoffs he has to do more lol

Thewave-your agenda against marner is not a good look for you. Remember when you said marner wont be able to make those junior plays in the nhl, well news flash he is and being very successful doing it.

Marner is such a little boy. Let the men lead the team. O'Reilly at 31 is still more useful than Marner in his prime for playoff hockey. Nylander had a bad game but he's still moving his legs getting open near the net for Knies.

Has done nothing besides shoot the puck from far away, away from traffic for a few goals and racked up assists in a blow out loss.

Show some heart and get in the game!

Riiiiiight.

Nylander played 20:33 at even strength, so according to you he played 19:20 with Tavares (and had 3 shots) and 1:13 with ROR and Knies (and had 3 shots), and set up the tying goal and was with them for the winning goal, but played worse with them.
No, Nylander played 14:27 with Tavares at 5v5, and was a key part of both goals against. You can't just blame Tavares every time Nylander does something wrong.
He played 1:13 on a line with O'Rielly and Knies at 5v5, and got outshot and outchanced, but Rielly scored a goal off a faceoff win by O'Rielly, where Nylander did absolutely nothing. You can't just credit Nylander every time somebody else does something right.

Stamkos is one of the dirtiest players in the league.
been watching him for years, he’s a professional hacker and cheap shot artist.
It’s hard for him to care about what anyone thinks , he’s too busy shining up his rings …
That being said , I hope we learn from him and the rest of the other bandits and hopefully reciprocate that winning formula
GLG
I love winners !

I am like most posters here, pleased that the Leafs pulled out a game they didn’t actually play well enough to deserve to win. Heaven knows there have been enough of the opposite sort of game! It’s encouraging, I think. Teams that make playoff runs usually win a few games like that.

But I have to say that the second period was hard on the old ticker!

He had nobody with him. He was making attempts and everyone else was flat footed. When he played with ROR who was also trying last night, imagine my shock, they got a goal.

Do you know what you saw or do you just think you know what you saw? Because, I saw it differently and have just shown you what happened when two players that were firing were put together. They scored a big goal. ROR also got the A on Rielly's OT

Says the guy who said Nylanders points the past few years are deceptive to his total impact on the game relative to Matthews and Marner

gtfo, Most of the posts aren't trolling Marner. There's an explanation for the cause for concern. Some of us want 16 wins, not just 4.

I’m not shy to say that I don’t understand how deeply Nylander fans support him.

He’s great but there is a kind of irrational push from some fans to prove he’s the best player in the team. We don’t need him to be the best player on the team, we need him to be what he is.

I wonder if it’s kind of a hipster faction of the fanbase that just wants desperately for Nylander to be the prototype player for the team.

I have no idea why, he’s obviously not as good as matthews or Marner, offensively or defensively. He’s a great complimentary piece, but he doesn’t drive the bus

My biggest concern is they win a round and think they have it figured out only to get schooled.
Each round gets harder and they haven’t gained experience knowing what round 2,3 and 4 are all about.
We will see but after 6 attempts they need to get the first one.

Exactly, I know you understand what I am attempting to say in all of this. I am hoping that ROR takes over the team essentially and his approach becomes contagious. If they work like ROR, this team has the talent to go all the way. I mean that.

There better be some additional discpline coming here for Tampa. I'm personally sick and tired of Kucherov and his antics. This is where we need a Darcy Tucker to beat the piss out of that dirty POS. That whole scrum, there better be a suspension or two coming from all of that and baby face Dubas better be on the phone screaming to get something done.

That team needed that game to come together. Now it's time to build on it. Win the next one and take the life out of them.

There won't be any supplemental discipline and I think you know it. I just re-watched the whole Rielly/Point fallout and realized Kucherov horsecollared Rielly from behind (which I knew) but *also* did the same thing to O'Reilly. How does he get away with this shit? He needs a giant beatdown if the league has no interest.

That's what ROR is for. He's vocal and has the respect of the room

This thinking is exactly why we have players that overpaid and why we also haven’t won a series in more then a decade

U think we can keep winning games like last night your dreaming but fingers crossed

oh shit. so it's all Dekes fault!?

I don't care. I just care that we finally have a team that *can* win games like last night's. In the past, they would have mailed it in at the first sign of adversity. The new guys are clearly setting the right example.
