Injury Report: Captain JT injury (aftermath)

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
They still failed major test #1.

There was no response from seeing their captain go. No extended effort to win the game. Aren't those the sorts of intangibles and maturity people talk about ?
Hopefully they rebound next game. Lotsa time left. Sounds like you’re giving up on your team already. It’s was a deflating game though.

All season, many posters here have been shoving it down our throats about this team is different (better depth, more maturity, experience, intangibles, etc).

We're about to find out whether you guys were right or not. Major test #1, and the results = F

I don’t think you can really judge them on this game. I never understood why teams are to continue playing after a gruesome injury. The game should be stopped immediately and rescheduled. Mentally you cannot recoup from watching something like that, (especially when it’s someone you care about) within minutes. It’s nuts

No

His post said "Anytime you get knocked out you likely get a concussion."

Reality is less than 1 in 10 KOs result in concussions. It's actually "likely" based on data that it isn't a concussion. But that's not to say Tavares does or doesn't have one.
And that quote is a concussion causes a KO 1/10 Times (the reverse) no?

Here it is: But while getting knocked-out can be a sign of concussion, it only happens in less than 10 percent of cases (of concussions).

I read that as less than 10 percent of concussions involve a knockout, which is different than your bolded.

No?

I’d still be surprised to see him back this playoffs to be honest. I hope I’m wrong.

Hmmmmm... I wouldn't go that far. He could miss a few games or a series, but it doesn't have to be a full playoffs.

But I hope he is ok for life and fam.

This is true.

JT took that knee on the chin, not in the temple.. It was still a very hard impact, so neither us can truly gauge the outcome, but judging by what Keefe said earlier, it's looking positive!

The fact of the matter is this,, and what I stated earlier.... its a slim chance you get a concussion from being knocked out.. but again, it all depends on where and how hard the impact was! 'how hard your brain smashes into your skull'
ETA: I am going out on a limb here and saying he doesn't have a concussion, but was knocked out from the impact, the thumbs up he gave and what Keefe said later on leads me to believe that he will be ok!, but only time will tell, but just my gut feeling!

Asking honestly, can you explain the difference between a knockout and a concussion for me?

provide evidence of your claims because that seems very false. Just because you were a boxer doesnt mean you know what you are talking about lmao.

The severity of the concussion is different from case to case but the brain smashing up against the skull is what causes the knockout.

In this instance, spine and brain damage I imagine.

I don't think they can clear him of a concussion this quickly, and a concussion is brain damage. They likely cleared him of fractures - which is great news.

He almost certainly has a concussion or concussion symptoms, but as has been mentioned before, some concussions are very mild and it's possible that he's back on the ice as early as next week. Hopefully it's that.

If every time you get knocked out, you get a concussion, then MMA fighters careers would be like 2-5 years long. Alistair Overeem has been KO'd 17 times across both MMA and kickboxing (by heavyweights) and he's been fighting since 1998 and still going strong.

I’m not versed in medical talk, and/or maybe I’m just naive, but what does “clear” mean here. Clear of what?

Clear of any acute process. No fractures, no brain swelling, no focal neurological findings. A clear imaging panel means there is no emergent situation. You gotta do your due diligence but the really bad things are mostly ruled out.

You for real man? Imagine one of your close friends or family having a horrific head injury with no information about how they are doing. Do you really think you’d have a great day at work. Have some perspective dude, Jesus.

Its a f***ing game in the end. Who cares about the result tn.

I was thinking more so physically cleared, ie., no brain bleeding or inflammation. He almost certainly received a concussion from that level of impact.

Judging by this reaction, don't think he's coming back anytime soon. I just saw this on TV and needed to share. The video is graphic but it's what happened live and was shown on CBC. Any doctors feel free to chime in as to what would cause his eyes to bleed like that Link Sharing
I’m a paramedic and showed it to my doctor father, we both cringed. That’s all.

No you're reading it wrong. There is a slim chance you get knocked out by a concussion. In boxing any time you get knocked out it's an automatic 30 day suspension.

Ya I see what you're saying. It's weirdly worded.

I imagine the knee hitting him directly in the face likely caused the blood.

What Happens When You’re Knocked Unconscious?.

your site was some sketchy garbage boxing site lmao

sounds like you have had some old school boxing education.

Whatever dude... its just simple facts for a simple mind like yourself. You want to argue with me, that is your prerogative, maybe you had too many and just being a dink? but facts are facts... and in lemans terms, they we're explained to you.

How accurate and relevant do we think that 10 year old article is compared to today when the definition they ultimately use for knockout is extremely similar to our current one for concussions?

The areas of the brain impacted include the cerebellum and the brain stem in which when hit against the skull, they cause either loss of motor control or loss of consciousness.
