Knowing JT, I hope he doesn’t feel pressured to come back this year if he’s not ready. It’s just hockey, and his long term health should take precedence.
Yeah, him trying to stand up was brutal to watch. He needs to put himself first in a situation like this.Knowing JT, I hope he doesn’t feel pressured to come back this year if he’s not ready. It’s just hockey, and his long term health should take precedence.
I told you guys in the gdt, this was a knockout where the principle point of contact was the chin. That makes a tremendous difference versus strikes to the temple. In a knockout situation, the impact briefly disrupts blood/oxygen flow to the parts of the brain responsible for consciousness, and is typically restored quickly. It was very textbook. A transient loss of consciousness for about a minute. The difference with concussions and more direct blows to the head is that those are more typically associated with inflammation/swelling. Those types of injuries are typically much scarier. This isn't a common injury in hockey obviously, but it is extremely common in MMA. They obviously scanned his head at the hospital and didn't see any bleeding or swelling, which offers further support to what I said earlier. Its very possible that he could still have a minor concussion, but I expect that he'll return to action much sooner than people think.
if JT comes back I'll be shocked and beyond hyped, but I'm thinking he ends up to the leafs this year like Stamkos was last year... injury means he only gets a few shifts in in the playoffs, but he gets his name on the cup and goes down as a heroI told you guys in the gdt, this was a knockout where the principle point of contact was the chin. Its called adversity. The Lightning lost their captain last playoffs and won. I hope this team uses it as a rallying cry, its what Tavares would want.

Was pretty uncomfortable seeing JT when they were trying to get him on his back.
That's great news. Just hope he's alright for the long-term.

I was crying when he fell back and then sick for the rest of the game. That was an absolutely gut-wrenching thing to see. When he fell back, with the blood around his eyes. My heart literally stopped. Jesus that was scary.
Gets to a disturbing level. He was trying to get up a couple times. Mentally stubborn or that boy got a lot of fight in him.
Hope he is ok.
I think the best we can hope for is him out 4 or so games. I can’t see anyway he didn’t have a concussion.
Guy would have played the rest of the game if the concept of team doctors and concussion protocol wasn't a thing. Glad they do though. An injury like this can impact far more than his hockey career.Great news about JT - still can’t get that image out of my head of him falling back. The fact that he tried to get up repeatedly speaks volumes to his character. I hope he returns if he can but this guy is a beast.
I don't understand why two trainers put him in that position.I was crying when he fell back and then sick for the rest of the game. That was an absolutely gut-wrenching thing to see.
