Injury Report: Captain JT injury (aftermath)

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.

Official confirmation. Hoping he's able to get through it speedily.

Best case scenario is he's out minimum for 10-14 days. Though can't even really speculate on that at this point because of the severity of the hit.

Exactly. Everyone is different and so has a different timeline. Posters were bringing up Sid but he had a neck injury as well, so completely different timelines. If he responds well he could be back within 2 weeks.

I am just happy all other tests came back clear, John is a lucky man and I couldn't be happier for him.

It was easily one of the biggest head injuries I have seen in a hockey game. At this point, I really just hope he doesn't have any lasting effects from this. This goes so beyond hockey, he has 2 young kids I believe. Head injuries are no joke. I just hope he can get back to a normal way of life sooner rather than later, and I hope he doesn't rush himself back. Just get healthy. Let the boys get it done for you JT

I hate the fact that JT is out. Im still sick at what I witnessed. I do not think it was intentional or Perry's fault. It just goes to show how fast the game has gotten.

But I do believe it was preventable if Chariot didnt stick out his knee when JT beat him clearly when he side stepped him. I believe Chariot took too many liberties last night and this will be corrected next game. Mark my words.

This all being said, we should and will beat Montreal without JT giving him plenty of time to recover from concussion for next round. We have the 2 best players in this series arguably 3 if you count Nylander. The Canadiens dont have the skill to beat us. Unless Price stands on his head and all 3 of our studs are shutout. Leafs take the series.

Rest up JT your teams got this.

I look at this Tavares injury as a pure unfortunate accident and much like I would compare it to a car crash.

If 2 cars collide together causing an accident, and one of those cars is tossed into on coming traffic and it results in a secondary collision involving a 3rd car, then I wouldn't blame the 3rd vehicle for the accident or any injury that occurred as a result.

The Ben Chiarot hit on JT sent him spiraling into the feet of Perry who did attempt to avoid by jumping and didn't have a lot of reaction time to avoid it.

The fact that Perry went over to JT stretcher as he was leaving and gave him a tap, and then allowed Foligno to engage in a fight which he didn't have to, and then took the hits without even throwing a punch in return. These were all further signs that he didn't intentionally mean to hit/hurt JT and also felt remorse and responsibility thereafter on how it turned out.

That could just as easily have been a Leaf player following up that play in Perry's spot and then it would have been friendly fire so to speak that injured Tavares similarly.

So while Perry has a reputation of a physical and dirty player, he also likely has a long term respect for JT being on Ontario kid, and playing in the OHL and even as his teammate on Team Canada in the past. Tavares plays a very clean game and wouldn't be a target of another teams aggression or attempt to injure in that respect.

Even after sleeping on it, I still believe Perry should sit out game or two. Not as a suspension but as a form of respect. Let tensions cool down.

Did the leafs just get long term cap relief..because I don't think the doctors should have moved him so quick.

it looked like he was trying to get up on his own and the dr was supporting his neck as he moved...

As for LTIR is very possible... Concussions aren’t the same for everyone and pending history / severity will determine how long he will be out. That could be 11M off the books for who knows how long? Months? Season? Back for playoffs? His health is the priority, hockey is secondary. No health no hockey.

GTFO of here with that garbage.

It would be like banning Jokinen for "attempted murder" for what happened to Zednik.

It's a fast paced full contact sport and sometimes accidents happen.

So now we play the waiting game. Hope he's back in full health soon as possible..

If he's not back to start next season Dubas needs to do everything in his power to get Eichel...

That Montreal D likes to crosscheck players on the back even after Price freezes the puck...I would stand right next to Price and land on him with an elbow to the head if I got crosschecked after the play. Hyman received a heavy crosscheck after the play last night, he was on the ice for awhile catching his breath. The refs need to call these for roughing...a player shouldn't be allowed to crosscheck another player hard after the puck is frozen and the whistle goes.
I’d like to see a replay of that hyman one. Looked like it was In The neck area

You must not have watched a lot of hockey.
I've been watching since the 80s and I have seen very few injuries that had the "I didn't expect that" level of this. I was like watching a car crash on the road in front of you. For whatever reason, the injuries where a guy keeps trying to get up and can't seem to resonate more than the ones where a guy is just out cold.

I want to see a strong, legal physical response from every player on Saturday night.

Our team needs to absolutely HAMMER Anderson and Chariot. The rest don't matter, those two need to be put through the boards (legally of course)

Tavares’ is worse.

Than all of of these? Okay sure.

You guys are confusing the level of it being a freak accident with it being a horribly damaging hit.

This is not one of the worst headshots of all time, not even close.

lol no disrespect, but this is laughable.

it was not Perry's fault, nor was it anyone's fault. It was extremely unfortunate. Perry had the stones to step up and answer a bell that he never had to answer. He deserves a lot of credit for taking that fight with Foligno because he really didn't need to. Gained a little respect for him there TBH. As I did with Foligno. All n all, really really unfortunate play but I like the response from all the players involved

Get real, this is hockey. When the game is moving as fast as the NHL does, accidents happen. If the shoe was on the other foot and Matthews did this by accident, I wouldn't expect him to sit out "a game or two" out of a form of "respect"

Your video was restricted so I only caught a glimpse of Lars Eller when he was smoked vs Ottawa; a player in motion was hit and his body took a lot of the impact as well, Tavares was stationary and took Perry’s knee pad while in full flight directly in the head.

Now was it the worst of all time, likely not, but I’ve been watching for over 30 years and it ranks up there amongst the worst.

Yanno, I don't feel sorry for Perry, don't think this is is an accident, and wish nothing but pain for that miserable SOB. f*** him, and the horse he rode in on , every. single. game. He should pay from here on out. You people are wayyyy tooo soft. f*** him. Hurt that f***er.

apparently JT texted the boys after the game saying he was OK, and sent personal messages to some of the guys who clearly took it a bit harder then the rest. That's unbelievable leadership. From a hospital bed this guy is still doing what he can to help the team. Unbelievable. Hard to think this wont be a rallying point. The boys will respond.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you. I can name countless situations with far worse headshots. They were so bad that the league took them out of the game entirely.
