Injury Report: Captain JT injury (aftermath)

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Fully agree on stepping up, following through on their hits. No injuries and targeting though. Clean good hockey. All I want.

Yep! Anderson is using our team for target practice, he just blows through us like a joke.

Chariot is a dirty prick who is intent on injuring players with his stick.

Watched the whole thing.
Half were clean body checks with little to no head contact.
The other half had a good amount of head contact, or contact that resulted in the head hitting the ice.

Not one came close to a player ONLY hitting the head full on (and you won't ever see a hit from under the chin like that) with a hard part of the body/equipment (knee/kneepad) at something close to half speed - in the 25 km/hr range, and then whipping the head back violently to hit the ice as well.

So, again, it's a flippant comment - nothing I've seen is close to what we saw last night, I'm sure it's happened a few times on this earth but I have yet to see it, and I've likely watched more hockey than you.

For those that don't agree with me. Fully understand. Just one mans stupid opinion and I get not wanting to sit Perry. I'll admit to the weakness of temper. I apologize.

My only wish is for a good clean game and no injuries or intent to injure. We traded Kadri for this reason. I don't believe in the aspect of revenge. I want us now more than ever to beat the Habs, but do it over the scoresheet.

Well... as I am sure most of you know by now.... he actually did get a concussion =( out for the playoffs most likely... huge loss, hope that gives the team the heart to win this series for him!
So dang unfortunate.. what a freak accident. =(

You have no idea what you're taking about. Where do you think the term "predatory headshot" came from?

How many times have guys had their heads rammed into the boards head first by chasing an icing.

Or do it both. I'm kinda old school. I say dress Sabourin and if the game out of reach
Let him earn some nhl dollars

apparently JT texted the boys after the game saying he was OK, and sent personal messages to some of the guys who clearly took it a bit harder then the rest. That's unbelievable leadership. From a hospital bed this guy is still doing what he can to help the team. Unbelievable. Hard to think this wont be a rallying point. The boys will respond.

These guys are gutless. If they cared they would have beat the shit out of the Habs last night both physically and on the scoreboard.

Do I think Perry intentionally tried to knee Tavares in the head to hurt him? No

Would I put it past Perry to play a little dirty and take extra shots at players in an intense playoff game? Absolutely not.

IMO Perry didn't intentionally knee him in the head. The play happened really fast and Perry didn't have a lot of time to reaction to how Tavares fell.

BUT - my guess is Perry saw the hit on Tavares as he turned and was taking a straight line back in the play and, in doing so, was looking at taking an extra shot at Tavares on the way by. Not necessarily in the head or anything, just a shot to the body.
This is exactly what have happened. He perhaps did not even realize it was his buddy Tavares, just someone in blue sweater. However, it was all too convenient of a situation not to take advantage and not be punished for that. Dirty scumbag.

Hopefully he is back later in the playoffs but it doesn't look good. He's probably out for the playoffs.

We can make it far for him if he can't make it back. It's tough to stay optimistic about this team going far without him though. He's a much bigger contributor to us than a Stamkos is for Tampa.

I didn’t say he wasn’t going to play next season.

I said he was done for the playoffs.
PROBABLY will miss part of next season.
I would not be surprised if he missed next season.

Recap: miss the remainder of the playoffs
Probably miss a part of next season
Would not be surprised if he missed next season.
Thanks for recap. Makes it more convincing.

f*** that. Hurt someone. Make it happen. Bunch of f***ing p***yes.

Well that sucks he is concussed .. 2 weeks to many months .. no one knows how each person recovers .. god speed to JT in his recovery

No disrespect, I see your perspective far too much on this forum. It's not being "realistic", it's pessimistic. Much easier being the whiny overdramatic fan on here. You get to be happy and celebrate with everyone when the boys win and perform well knowing that no one will call you out on your prior negativity, and you also get the benefit of being the "told ya so" dickhead that no one likes when things don't go our way.

I recognize by expecting the worst it "softens the blow" when the team actually does play to that expectation. But it really is mind numbing how many people are down in the dumps after 1 game. We lost 1 game and our captain and the series has a f***ing bow on it already lol. Thank god the players don't think this way.

support the team. Feel free to feel this way when they can't get out of the 1st round. I get that. But after 1 game, I donno.

I expect JT to be back for the playoffs. In fact, if the Leafs get in trouble against Montreal, I would not be surprised to see him back in this series.

That was a severe concussion with possible long term brain damage similar to the Bryan Little puck to the head. He might be done as a hockey player if he develops CTE.

The only bright side is that if they place him on long term IR it frees up cap space to re-sign Rielly and Hyman.

The person you’re responding to is basically an HFBoards NPC. He has existed in many iterations throughout the years on this particular board. There should be a containment thread/board for the over-dramatic, gripped by emotion folks

Yeah, concussions are just extremely unpredictable. Great news that it's "just" a concussion though, it looked like it could be that and numerous other terrible things.

I'd say absolute best case scenario, he's back for round 2 (if we make it to round 2). But worst case ... we've seen concussions keep guys out for a year, or even end their careers. They're massively variable, and honestly some of the ones that look really bad at first end up being not that bad, while some that look innocent at first end up being terrible, it's unknowable at this point.

Not saying you are wrong, because none of us know.

But to speak in absolute terms about a subject that has a MILLION variables person to person is a bit ridiculous.

Especially since none of us are specialists in that area.

Bryan was in hospital for over a month with a bad brain bleed and swelling .. completely different situation here .. even Syd da kid had his brain swell too .. JT has tested negative for severe complications otherwise he would not be at home today living his life normally

WOW, humility , not a trait we often see on this board. I have no clue who you are but just gained a lot of respect in my eyes.

I often agree with you when it comes to contrarians and self proclaimed "realists." However, and I hate to say it, I agree with the OP.

This team's biggest problem is between the ears. They rarely step up, and they rarely respond. Just look at how they did last year after Muzzin got injured. They blew a 3 goal lead and got shut out in an elimination game. I thought they might have finally gotten over the hurdle with the comeback in game 4, but nope.

Honest questions, and I hope I'm wrong on this, but has this core ever stepped up for anyone? I don't recall. I'd even go as far back as them losing a game where their rookie centerman scored 4 goals in his first NHL game. To be fair though, very few remain from that team.

I hope I'm wrong, and I'd love to eat bowlfulls of crow, but I won't believe this team has the mental fortitude to push through adversity until they actually show it. Atm I think they'll shrink away and blame the loss on their captain going DOWN.

Edit: I thought I was in the gdt and not the injury thread. I'll go ahead and spoiler tag my response.

I hope JT has a full recovery regardless of when he comes back, and I hope he doesn't rush back under any circumstance. You never want see what happened to Marc Savard happen again.

It's great to hear he was trying to comfort the team from his hospital bed. He's obviously a strong leader.
