This guys a machine.

Good news, hope we go on a run and he makes it back.

Perry does not get the benefit of the doubt from me anymore. I agree with you. I've played for many years and even my old useless ass could have avoided collision there. People will sympathize with Perry but his history doesn't allow me to give him compassion.

There's an unspoken covenant between these players to play the game aware of your opponent's well being. The pro athlete brethren know how dangerous the game can be. If you think that these players aren't constantly aware of the moments when their opponent is dangerously vulnerable, you probably haven't played the game. Self-preservation alone means every athlete on that ice is capable hitting the brakes, jumping over, changing direction, letting up, etc. at any moment. Blind collisions still happen. This wasn't a blind collision, Perry skated directly in the path of a prone JT. It wasn't a misplaced hit that an opponent had instinctively tried to avoid turning it into a knee on knee or glancing shot to the chin by a shoulder.

I'll offer up the following: how come these ugly injuries always seem to have a player with a history of being dirty, of crossing the line, of not respecting his opponent? Cam Neely's career wasn't ended by some random defender, it was by the dirtiest defenseman in hockey. Erik Karlsson's and Dave Bolland's legs weren't cut by the skate of some random opponent, both were by known dirtbag players. A vulnerable JT's head wasn't plowed into by some rando on Montreal, no it was coincidentally probably the dirtiest star player of the past couple of decades.

Feel for the guy growing up huge leaf fan just like us being able to play in a Leafs vs Habs series as the team captain no less would be a dream come true. to get knocked out on a freak injury just sad man.

This means they ran spinal tests-fluids, eye tests, hearing tests, EEG, ICP and CT scans to check condition of brain .. he would not have been released if there was any sort of brain swelling or bleeding which is a great indicator he will recover fully .. only issue now is concussion which will get figure out in next 24 hours .. hope for no headaches or nausea folks
Also I’m pretty sure this means he does not have a skull or facial fracture.

First off my prayers are with JT and family. My hopes are that it isn’t anything serious although it looked like it was during that time.

Now on what transpired. In my eyes Perry did not mean to do what he did. He was trying to get out of the way. Unfortunately he didn’t. I have no issue with what Foligno did. It’s two fold, one answering back seeing ur leader knocked out. Two trying to get his teams heads back into the game. So no issue at all with what Foligno did.

Now with all of that said, this is far from over. The player on Montreal that cause all of this was Chariot. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be a target the rest of this series. He was beat by Tavares on the play, and stuck his leg out to take out Tavares. It’s there in plain video. The team will see this and expect Simmonds or Foligno to answer the bell early in game 2.

Chariot was taking liberties with Matthews, Marner and Hyman all night. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see things getting a little nasty next game.

Amazing news that JT is back home.
Lets hope there is no concussion to be concerned about but this is really good news for John and his family.

Released from the hospital is fantastic news! We can literally talk about concussion protocols only now.

Well that is true I have been knocked unconscious 3 times for short periods of time and da 2 violent blows I was able to play rest of each game in in junior 1 in minor pro .. da one glancing blow actually concussed me but I still played through it .. so it is very hard to know how people react to these hits .. people should not write off JT he has got great will power and he will want to play again this series if tests are all negative like they appear to be .. if he does not have headaches and nausea for 24 hours after hit he will be fine

previous generations and head injuries were basically chalked up to toughness
and the phrase 'man up' or 'walk it off' ...cant say i never heard it, or said it myself.
how many lives and careers were ruined because of that mindset is unknown

Great news. Regardless if he plays again this season. It's important for him to be with his family and give it a few days minimum to be taken care of by the medical staff and go from there. Barring a miracle he's probably gone for a long while.

FYI you are right .. but Ben is a solid kid from a good Hamilton family on da mountain .. his younger bro Josh played at times with my younger kid and Matty is a solid guy too .. yes there are rough around edges but not dirty players .. this is part of playoff hockey and until we learn to fight back it will dog us from advancing in playoffs

What is your definition of a long while? No palpable damage, but he did absolutely get knocked out cold, so he should be held out for a while anyway, but I could definitely see him playing in a matter of weeks.

The knee that everybody seems to be missing is the first one he received. Chiarot deserves a penalty on that play but this league is the worst at protecting players. The brunt force causing Tavares to fall victim to Perry's knee was Chiarot's.

We'll see how many of these hits some will be getting away with.

They sent my dad home same day after a non-displaced skull fracture. No lie seeing the Xray made me weak in knees.

the fact that he was released is wonderful, but, he is still under 'care' at home, but not being required to be in the hospital is great news, and means no brain bleed, or serious spinal damage (no immediate surgery req'd)

True but this generation is such a drama filled group it is over da edge da other way ... he would not be at home with a fracture, brain bleeding or any brain swelling .. if he has no headaches and/or nausea over next 24 hours he will be just fine to play

they have him listed as 'out indefinitely' ...I doubt he will be on the ice any time soon.
my best hope is he is strong enough to be at the rink to add some moral support.

If everything goes well during concussion protocol we could possibly see him play again in 7-10 days, but that is the stars aligning and no concussion issues at all.

Just want to see him healthy for his fam. Hockey is secondary.
