Injury Report: Captain JT injury (aftermath)

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Yeah. When he couldn't hold himself up it was definitely hard not to panic and think worst case scenario. Probably one of the worst looking injuries I've seen.

Agreed.. he was knocked out and coming too and the last thing he remembered was being in action.. getting knocked out and coming too can be a scary thing if you ever experienced it. Lets hope he will be ok!

lol.. ok.. this is what google says....
Though they may not prevent a concussion, it makes sense that they could theoretically decrease a hard impact to the jaw from radiating to the skull and lessen the blow. More importantly, mouthguards help prevent trauma to the teeth and face.

do mouth guards help with concussions - Google Search
piss off kid lol
there are opposing artciles everywhere on these kinds of things, but all over the internet are facts about mouth guards helping to prevent concussions. I know you want the last word so bad but I wont give it to you. Im starting to see some of the effects of your many concussions over the years.

lol. I never had a concussion, but what ever dude.. I think its time you go on block, you're toxic

Watched the whole thing. Obviously he is more knowledgeable than most talking here, but still it's open ended, we have no idea until the results come back what has happened.

But him giving the thumbs up and moving his body right after the hit is the biggest sigh of relief in my eyes that the man isn't paralyzed.

Which is why my heart sunk so low when i saw it happen.

He could be back in two weeks or next season some time, but from what I've seen, at least the man is going to live a normal life.

And that's all i truly care about. He is not going to be a shell of himself. He will be there for his kids and i hope, also play hockey, which i think he will.

Love you JT.

I know you'll never read this but my thoughts are with you and yours.

Can a Mouth Guard Prevent a Concussion? | Sentinel Mouthguards

heres some reading for you if you want to take a look. It's actually a decent read and quite recent.

While mouthguards won't prevent concussions, (nothing really will) there are studies out there that they can help reduce the severity.

It can depend on what kind of mouthguards you get. Cheap ones, higher end, or custom molded etc. The better the fit, the better the protection. Yes, it helps against lacerations, teeth grinding etc. as well, they also help against shock and impact absorbtion.

Signed someone who used to sell them for a living.

That was hard to watch - really hope Tavares is alright and returns soon. Never want to see a guy get hurt.

That was the scariest injury Ive ever seen happen live in all my years watching live.

From pure adrelanine in the first 10 minutes, to my heart sinking to my stomach and not even caring about the game.

God dammit man. I hope he can return to play during these playoffs. I hope he can make a full recovery. I hope it just looked worse than it actually was.

I hope this team rallies for him. Win the next 4 straight. Come on boys, do it for the Cap.

I can assure you he doesn't have a broken neck! They would have put a neck brace on right there on the ice if they thought that!
But here's to hoping he will be back in a game or two! we need him big time!

Don't think he's coming back in a game or two...maybe if it was still 1967...this is 2021, he's going to take his time to ensure he's right before plays again...even if he wants to play, he can't until he gets clearance from the medical staff.

At the end of the day, they are mainly there to protect your teeth, yes, I get the slight chance they can prevent the shock factor... but its minimal at best... more so to protect your teeth. I am sure you can agree with me on that. Helmet has a whole hell of a lot more to do with regards to protecting the brain from concussion!

Im not a doctor but the moment I saw JT trying to get up and his body gave out, I know this is a concussion. From the replay and the speed of the game it’s like a car hitting you at 80 km/h. Personally out of respect and for JTs health I would shut him down for the season. Let’s not take any chances. I say life is more important than the game. Most leaf fans would disagree and want JT back on the ice but this is the human JT we talking about.

Holy seriously? What a moot point to argue about in this thread. Who cares what mouth guards do or dont do right now? Our captain was hospitalized...and this thread should be about good wishes and positive vibes for John and his family. Not arguing about the purpose of mouth guards. What does this have to do with this horrible unfortunate injury?

Get well soon JT...This man revealed a whole new level of warrior tonight. Thinking about his family and wishing for the fastest, smoothest recovery both short term and long term. One of the scariest scenes Ive witnessed in any hockey game at any level. Especially for how it hit so close to home being a huge fan.

Well.. duh... obviously, I was just making a reply bud.. chill out... of course I care about the health and safety of our captain! ... but if I do have to pick a more recent injury to top anything, was Soups wrist slash! that was nasty! JT is going to be ok! early reports are pointing that way!

I hope John is ok first of all. Take all the time you need. If you’re done for the season, that’s what it is.

On a secondary level, how fitting would it be if the Leafs could use Tavares as a rallying cry to do something really special these playoffs. Can we see the appropriate ending? “WIN FOR JOHN.”

As someone who's suffered a bakers dozen of concussions and saw replays of the hits and what my body did, I immediately said yup he's concussed. The blood at first glance made me worrisome but the tweet giving the clear is super promising. Head injuries can be very tricky going forward after you have one, however if that's all that is the result of that hit, I'd say thats the best one could hope for. Definitely hope he has a quick and full recovery.

I’m not versed in medical talk, and/or maybe I’m just naive, but what does “clear” mean here. Clear of what?
I feel like clear in this situation is pretty ominous. Usually they would report "initial test are negative, but staying in hospital for further evaluation". Something along those lines. Makes me wonder if the family doesn't want the findings public yet. The report "tests are clear", can literally mean, it's clear he has a broken neck, bleeding in the brain, swelling.

Hope all is actually clear though.

Unfortunately, we don't have any players with a spine to take Perry out aside from Foligno, an kudos to him. Simmonds is a ghost, worthless.

I know everyone wants to be level headed and not seem like a rabid homer but as far as I'm concerned Perry hung his knee. Clear when you see it from the back angle. He sees John down and doesn't make an attempt to lift that left leg. Sure, he looked like a ghost after - like someone immediately regretting the action he just took might.

Funny its always the goons making these borderline plays that everyone jumps out to defend: Cooke on Karlsson, Tkachuck on Scheif, Perry on Tavares. These guys conceal it better than anyone. No one wants to believe they'd do it, as if humans are infalliable, especially when the stakes are high and adrenaline is pumping. Stupid, impulsive decision by Perry that I'm sure he currently hates himself for.

If you can watch the replay from our zone cam in slow motion a few times and tell me he didn't hang his knee I've got a bridge to sell you. Glad it doesn't seem like a career ending injury right now. Prayers to John and his family.

Revenge hits will only result in more young men getting their careers and lives shortened.

If I see a retaliation attack. I'm done watching for the season. Class and sportsmanship comes first.

You win through the scoreboard. Not by taking pointless, injury intentional hits.

That was a damned scary moment. Like all, I want the Leafs to win, but more than that, I wish him a full recovery.

I had this discussion before and I stand by it. Make them pay. If that was your brother would you pass them a tissue or take them out?
