Oskar Magnusson is so underrated on this board, his skillset is very strong for the modern NHL and I think he could become a top 6 offensive winger if he can keep improving his skating and strength.

Oskar Magnusson is so underrated on this board, his skillset is very strong for the modern NHL and I think he could become a top 6 offensive winger if he can keep improving his skating and strength.

He's a 7th rounder who just completed his D+1 season, mostly playing in the Swedish equivalent of the ECHL (and on a team that won just 4 of its 22 games, to boot). I'm going to confess that I don't even know know where to look to find those games if I wanted to watch him. If he can make a push for Sweden's WJHC team (assuming it happens), then I think more people will notice him. Otherwise he's going to need a big year for people to take notice.

I'm going with Leason at 9 but I will be going with Joe Snively at 10 for sure. Snively's a local guy from NOVA so I have to support him.

According to a post on the prospects board Protas will be the top-line center for Belarus in their Olympic qualifiers starting tomorrow. Fehervary will not play for Slovakia due to a slight muscle injury or something.

Starting at 11 I'll be going with Bjorklund, probably their biggest sleeper prospect. He may be their next goalie diamond. Good to see they've got a somewhat decent top 10 in that depth role players like Malenstyn & AJF have gotten edged out. Still room for improvement, particularly up front on the wings (even if some of the centers probably slide over).

I am at a true loss at #12. I would think that raw potential-wise, it might be Damien Riat. Unfortunately, I think his decision to go back to his native Swiss League this year at his age is shutting the NHL door for good.

Bjorklund or Lemay here I think when it comes to upside. Plenty of reasonable depth options, though, starting with Malenstyn. He's certainly the safest bet.

Yes I did mean that - thoughts were split between what to do for d and forwards.

Always find this voting interesting as everyone has slightly different reasoning, so would be good to map out.

Will take a stab at it once we round out the top 15

Not sure what Nardella did to warrant falling so far in the rankings compared to last year. I know i argued against voting for him super high given his age (25), but since it seems we're keeping 25 year olds in the poll he was ahead of a couple of the other options for me. He doesn't have a clear avenue in DC, but he's one of the closest to the NHL in general and certainly has demonstrated NHL role player potential.

Voting Malenstyn here due to NHL proximity, but losing a season to injury certain makes him feel like less of a "safe" bet than a year ago. #12 and beyond is pretty wide open. A few guys with decent upside potential but are rather long-term project players, and a few who are relatively close (Malentsyn, Pinho, AJF, Gerisch) but with limited upside.

I'm probably going with Bjorklund at #13. Goalies are always a long-term project, but the kid has the athleticism and decent size (amazing how 6'2" is now not that big for a goalie). A ton of uncertainty with goalies, but he could be a fast riser if he continues to develop and excel. A starting goalie would easily be the best upside of the bunch left.

His relatively unspectacular NA season last year kinda spelled his doom as an NHL prospect, IMO. If he stuck it out in NA again this year he might have carved out an AHL career, but given this is the last year of his NHL ELC, I would be skeptical he would have been re-upped by the Capitals or anyone else without a breakout performance. He had that "mystery box" value for a while in our system (and that was appealing particularly when the system was full of lackluster prospects elsewhere), but I think it's safe to say others have passed him at this point.

Voted for Joe Snively, but I'm not married to that pick. I like how he looked at the scrimmages last year, pity we didn't get a real pre-season to give him a chance against other NHL competition. He's another 25 year old, though. But we're kinda into the really murky territory at this point.
