Nardella, Gersich, Snively & Shepard are 25. Are they still prospects? Might as well add Pinho back if so. Could also throw Fucale in the mix.
I went Johnson mostly because of mobility and upside. I'd have gone Iorio if I had a better feel for his hockey sense, which may ultimately determine his upside. He's got a solid foundation so he could make a quick jump if it all really comes together. Any of the prime options in this next tier could at least put heat on Protas at five next season. Up to him to cement separation from the pack and put himself in the mix as a recall option.

Does Pilon PK at a level that he could conceivably develop into an NHL level PKer? Because it's going to be hard for him to secure a future roster spot if he can't contribute to the PK.

Pilon had a big year so went with him. Nardella is next for me. He will lose votes because of playing in Sweden with limited visibility but you can’t forget his breakout season last year.

Yeah I thought about voting Pilon as he has some skill and he's still pretty young and has potential to improve.
I feel like D have a better chance to develop more even past 25 where most Fwds are what they are which is why I voted Nardella because while he still needs some improvement he's already pretty skilled

LuJo is a sunk cost at this point. He’ll be lucky if he can stick around the AHL.

I think the COVID season broke the models a little bit. Pilon's chance of becoming a star shot up thanks to a PPG+ season in Hersehy, but Pilon only played 14 games in that season, and otherwise bounced back-and-forth with the taxi squad.

He PKed but wasn’t a go to guy per say. A lot of the PK duties over the past two years were Gersich, Pinho, Malenstyn, AJF and Leason got PK time last year too. Pilon was lumped into that group. Hershey didn’t have just two PK forward pairings either. They usually had three groups IIRC

Thanks! It's much appreciated. I'm just trying to project what kind of roles these players might fill with the Caps. I think a lot of the potential openings that will emerge in the next couple of years will involve the PK and, at least for now, it doesn't seem like McMichael is playing that role, which puts more pressure on young players trying to grab a spot to play the PK. Even with the roster this season, the Caps just lost two major PK D in Chara and Dillon and, at the moment, Riemsdyke and Fever are the only two players on the roster other than Carlson and Jensen who look like they would fill that role. I'm looking forward to seeing Pilon get some NHL games this season though. He's definitely earned it.
