Personally, I don’t think there is a ton he can do right now except provide some cover to Spencer on the teams struggles instead of letting his rookie coach handle all the crap going on. BMac needs to take some accountability in the situation and make it clear what the plan is moving forward. In other words he can provide leadership and take some responsibility for the current scenario they find themselves in. You may disagree but those are my thoughts.

One immediate improvement he can make is waiving Kuzy and sending him to Hershey.
Regarding sending Kuzy to AHL...Since alot of ppl don't want him to be anywhere near the Bears/prospects, could he be sent to another AHL team (like Chicago Wolves, Checkers, etc.)?

I believe those two AHL teams are not affiliated with any NHL team.

Checkers are affiliated with Florida Panthers. Wolves are the only unaffiliated team. I'd have to imagine the Wolves would have to agree to take him. Just keep him away from Hershey at all costs.

Probably moot, though. I'm not sure he'd report and I don't think he'll be waived anyhow.

Just send him down and if he doesn’t report it’s a win as they can terminate his contract. If he does report just healthy scratch him for the year.

This is a totally different case than Backstrom. Atleast Backstrom brings a positive attitude and was limited due to injury. Kuznetsov would be addition by subtraction. Give his ice time to some of the young players to develop. They aren’t winning anything anyway.

They’re just not very good. They haven’t been good all season and they won’t be very good moving forward. With the exception of playing the 4th line too much and playing Edmundson at all I think Carberry has done a really good job but you need talent to win and this team has next to zero offensive talent any more. It is what it is.

We knew this year would be tough if there wasn’t an influx of talent and there wasn’t. Mantha has rebounded nicely and some other guys are playing well but Kuznetsov is arguably the worst forward in the NHL and Ovi has been both unlucky and not very good. The good news is it seems like they have some decent young talent coming and they should have a shit ton of cap space coming up, especially if Oshie is done.

Really no use in getting upset over it. They gave us 18 years of high end hockey and this is the cycle of sports. Teams like New Jersey and Carolina bounced between irrelevant and bad for the better part of the last decade and now the seeds of that suckage are bearing fruit.

Miro, Leonard, Cristall, Chesley, CMM, Protas, Sandin, Fever. That's a good core group that with one or two added superstars might be a cup contender in a not too distant future.
A core group that needs a couple of superstars added to it is just not a core group.

It looks like a group just good enough to keep the Caps out of the top of the draft, unless some of the players who haven't seen NHL yet develop into something unexpected.

One or two of them might turn into star level players. Cristall or Leonard most likely.

It’s relatively hard to draft low, be competitive (moving assets to buy at the TDL every year), and somehow still come out of it with a youth group of superstars, lol. The Caps have drafted rather well, especially given a team that has for the better part of the last two decades, drafted pretty low and bought at the TDL with draft capital. Leonard was the first guy they’ve drafted of the new gen that was near top of the draft category for where he was drafted and that’s the type of guy one would hope explodes. Same thing with any future pick that ends up being top-10. I have absolutely no problem with the youth core the Caps are building - it literally could not be built any better through the draft. What are you expecting, a Kaprizov-like steal with every pick??

Well hell idk, make the team better? Crazy concept I know.

Maybe I'm a GMBM apologist, but I don't know what he can do. He's tried to trade for a top-6 F, but you can't make teams agree to a deal. Unfortunately for a while now, mid season deals in the NHL are few and far between. Almost no one, besides us, has cap space and make for good trade partners.
Exactly what top 6 trade did he try and make? Ditching Kuzy to Nashville? His MO for years now has been “we tried”.

So, again, since you are so set on routes he should have been taken what is it you want him to do? Who is it you want him to target and how do you propose he gets him?

Like...this isn't Madden. Not only do you need 2 to tango, you need to actually have something the other party values.

I mean that IS his job right?

You're dodging the question. If you know there are so many options, what is it you'd want him to have done?

The simple fact is the guys making the most cap, guys that everyone wanted re-signed (minus maybe Kuzya, but good luck getting your cup without him) are either not playing or are so bad you'd rather they not play. The guys he's been able to swap in and around? They've been contender worthy. Their depth is without a doubt contender worthy, his cheap bargain bin acquisitions have been outstanding on this team.

The only recent acquisition we can maybe poo poo is Kuemper, who's been awful this year but was great at times last year. Lindgren, who's another one of his gets, has played like at the level of a franchise tender for periods of time both years. I'd argue that even's out. They're both still an upgrade over VV and Samsonov.

As for a trade? What are they trading, and for who? Kuzya is constantly talked about as not even deserving to play, you gonna flip that magically for a top 6 player? Or do you trade Mantha, one of the only top 6 performing wingers they've actually had this year. How about that cap space? The space they only got like 12 games into the season when everyone is signed. Who are they signing? Why would he trade for bad contracts and throwing in the towel on this year while we were both in the fight for a playoff spot, winning games mind you, and in a spot where next year and the following our cap space is wide open.

This is the hangover after the 15 year bender and it just seems people can't handle the hangover, or they don't want to drink the gatorade and deal with the headache, that comes before you're able to get to the next night of partys.

I need to score a job where if the area I am in charge of is under performing it will not be my fault in the slightest. I’m 100% over simplifying this but regardless it would be a sweet gig.
