Andy Murray took a white to get going again and he was amazing at the Aus Open this year. I watched him play and he was moving extremely well. Give Backstrom time.

He will not get back to his best level of course but he will improve, its been a massive massive recovery for him.

Right or wrong I can excuse the bubble season and the year after due in part to just how weird the two were.
See, I can't. I can excuse poor performance, that happens, and it was a weird restart. I can't excuse the fact that according to other players and the media, they weren't taking it seriously at all. They supposedly had a real party atmosphere going, and that's not the first time this core has been accused of that.

Being the team that relies so much on the crowd to get them going I can see them not getting up for the games. Also being an older group I can see them being less inclined to want to be locked away from their families for the playoff bubble that summer.

Sure, but that's why you start the retool then, because if they can't be professionals, they need to start being broken up and shipped off.

I give it a pass that year due to a once in 100 year situation that occurred. What also can't be lost in those seasons was the farce of a job that Reirden did he wasn't ready to fill the hole that was left by Trotz.

wouldn't that be fun! and agree completely on Backs. he is and has been working his ass off to heal but massive surgeries like that take a year to truly fully recover. he has said his timing is still off and he has work to do. he knows it. this offseason will tell the real tale of who he is as a player going forward. and as I've said before, will ever really be a $9M guy again? no. but he was $9M guy making $6M and his current salary is basically back pay.

Everyone is like 4 people?

LOL

There's a group who keep hammering the "younger faster" point at every opportunity so they're of course going to call for blowing everything up, firing the coach they think hates young players because of one guy in NSH years ago, trading everyone over 30 because some core guys get hurt, etc.

They're impatient.

My message all along has been "relax, this could go sideways but we'll probably know by the TDL what's going on with all these UFAs, and it's no coincidence they're all expiring at the same time along with the coach."

Calling for blowing it all up in November was NEVER going to happen and that's when the most recent bout of arguing began.

Then there's another group of people who may just be shitposting, I'm not sure. Same difference.

I'd bet it's because most fans are fans of the players less so then the team. It's not something I can imagine. I'm gonna support this team post Ovechkin just like I did pre-Ovechkin. And if the team gets better unloading these guys then hasta la vista.
For me it’s not a matter of wanting them to move Nick, and more being 98% certain it will never happen. Ted won’t sign off on a move like that. Maybe I’m wrong, we’ll see. Do I think they should be that sentimental, or loyal? Absolutely not. But we all know the way this org is run from the top. People still buy Backstrom jerseys and come to the arena to see him.

So, I’d rather deal with things in the realm of the possible. The best I can do is hope, that with a more normal offseason regimen, and full camp, he can start the season playing better, with more effective timing. Or longer shot - he decides to hang ‘em up due to medical eval, or being talked into it.

Also, maybe be a little careful with ascribing the nature of other people’s fandoms. That’s a little unfair to most people on here. Peace.

Ultimately, everyone else can play the game but you think you have to post asinine, distorted summaries like this one so you can be above it

I'm not above it at all. I get caught up arguing with you far more often than I'd like, and that's on me. I own my shit. Humility might be a bitter pill for you, but I hear a spoonful of sugar can be helpful. Maybe try that.

People have been calling for selling for MONTHS

That's the kind of blanket statement I'm talking about. Most "people" were calling to sell a certain piece or two. You lump all those together and cumulatively assign the weight of it to everyone that disagrees with you, like "Everyone wanted to move Carlson, Backstrom, Oshie, Kuznetsov, Eller, and everything else not tied down all year!"

That type of hyperbole isn't constructive. To you "everyone" is whining, whinging, quitting, and not being a proper fan, when in reality different people are advocating for different things and you're doing the adding all by yourself to create this "everyone's a crackpot but me" narrative that's mostly horseshit.

And I say mostly because, yeah, there are certainly some doomsayers around here, but most of us see that for what it is and separate the wheat from the chaff. Those are outlier, extremist, often heat of the moment takes that are easily disregarded, but you put that on the rest of us so you can do your dismissive, erroneous "everyone's pissing and moaning" thing.

So here... Here's something you can post to save yourself a lot of breath in the future...

Indeed. It’s a business and I care more about the jersey than the name on the back of it.

This is what you always do. You complain about hyperbole and generalization, using hyperbole and generalization.

If you don't count yourself among the people I'm talking about then don't worry about it. It'll be OK, I promise.

It's kind of hard not to considering how you phrase the pot shots you take at "HFCaps", your favorite thing to do is sneak one pretty reasonable take in with three or four reductive bullshit ones and then act like you're above the whole thing when someone takes issue.

Like this, actually.

Michkov has the tools to be a superstar if he can iron out a wrinkle or two in his game. As in, best Russian player since Ovechkin and Malkin.

The talent, poise, anticipation are all 1A material.

If Wash could someone pull him out of a hat at the draft they’d be on the fast track.
Watched some videos of him the other day he just seems pretty small/slight.
Have to wonder if the Caps won't be in on some NCAA UFAs given that they can offer an immediate roster spot for some of the higher profile ones. Defensemen in particular seem like a sensible target.
Probably should be in the draft thread but already ready for a Langway post ranking the college FAs, heh.

Guilty of touting getting younger and faster and it was also me who brought up his handling of Kevin Fiala when with the Predators and there was a thread on the Nashville board about it that I referenced.

I'll just put myself on double secret probation for these transgressions.

I'm not above anything. I just want the people who've spent the last several months or years pissing their pants to take a look at what's going on and think about it before they start pissing them next time.

If I don't call every one out by name that's probably a good thing.
