Would rather they keep Jensen (assuming he's willing to sign a ~3ish year deal), but if they do trade him they absolutely have to hang onto TvR.
I don’t mind them bringing back both Jensen and TVR on three year deals.

Gustafsson can go though.

I just read the athletic graded the caps trade as a C minus and the Bruins as an A
Good job GMBM
I think some people are living in the past with Orlov, he’s not the same guy he was 2-3 years ago.

If Ottawa wants to give up a first for Jensen, I'd be all for it. Doubt it'd happen though.

Japers was musing an Eller + Jensen package to the Avs for a bigger return, then Gus to Tampa. The Tampa one is less interesting, but I'd dream of a Byram package.

I find it very hard to see Jensen leaving that much money on the table (term wise) as his career earnings are ~10 million now. His next contract could easily triple that.

... the impression I get is that the [Caps} don’t want to do a total sell-off, either. There’s a balance they’re going to try to pull off between trading pending UFAs but also keeping and perhaps signing others. They want a competitive team next season.

But I’m guessing Lars Eller gets traded, for example. Pending UFA defensemen Nick Jensen and Erik Gustafsson both were in contract talks with the Caps as late as last week. But of course, so was Orlov’s camp. Do the Caps trade both those blueliners? I could see them trading one and signing the other. Meanwhile, I also think they will be like the Blues in their attempt for a quick roster turnaround. There’s zero interest in a rebuild with Alex Ovechkin around. So I could see Washington trying to get in on some interesting add-ons this summer....

...I don’t think Kings GM Rob Blake wants to spend a first-round pick for a rental player, which is also why I’m told he wasn’t really a player on Orlov....

I wonder about Colorado as a potential landing spot for Eller. The problem is, the Avs don’t have a second- or third-round pick this year or next. I can’t imagine they would trade a first for Eller. They traded some prospects last year at the deadline. … If I’m Washington, I call the Avs and try to entice them on a bigger package involving both Eller and one of their defensemen.

Cole Perfetti out 8 weeks. Winnipeg could use a bargain bin depth winger in Conor Sheary or Marcus Johansson. That will be one 3rd round pick please

I also think they gotta keep one of TvR or Jensen. RHD are too valuable. Sell one and keep the other. Someone still has to play next year!

If the Caps were willing to move Kuznetsov, what would it take for Colorado to land him?
Add Jensen to it and will do it for a package around Byram. Just plus or minus the sides

The problem is you've only got a first that I'm aware of, and it isn't that desirable a first considering how high it is. And I don't know what prospects you've got to make the middle ground up.

I just keep TVR. He fits the old adage 80% ability for 20% of the cost. I don't actually think TVR is 80% the player of Jensen, I think it's closer then that, but he'll probably come in for at least 20% of Jensen's cost, if not lower.

Jensen could probably fetch a close to Orlov package.

As theathletic had listed for one of the reasons this trade happened now and not later was that other teams started to be short of 1sts. If they just decided to trade Orlov, it was big risk to hold it back. Bos trades their 1st for Gavrikov and others go after Chychrun, Kane etc, we are left out hanging.

So as soon as they made the decision to move on with sell, it was going to be a race to get atleast a decent value.

Others can wait few days and they can look around for best value, but obviously stuff will go down. This was always a snowball decision to start from Orlov instead of the lower class ufas.

Asberger side of me wants to see us getting atleast a 3rd and 6th for this season and a 2nd for 24 just to set us ”whole” for the picks we are missing. From that point on its all equity and reload for the summer, which will be busy!

I’d have a hard time trading Byram for Kuzy just given the age.

Would something around Newhook+2023 first+ get the ball rolling?

Kidding aside from my previous post, yes, that would be of interest. What's Newhook looking for with his next contract? And what's his deal... I thought he was supposed to slide into the 2C role after Kadri left? Has he been a disappointment or just not ready to be 2C on a team with Cup aspirations?

Not a bad offer, actually. Haven't seem much of Newhook, but seems to have a high motor rate coupled with some scoring touch. Wouldn't hang up the phone on this and would be interested in that other "+"

Kuznetsov to COL is such an obvious fit. I think he'd actually bounce back there... offenses just completely die under Lavi after the first 2-3 years.

There's just no point staying attached to 92. Clear the cap space.

Lars Eller is like top 20 in faceoff percentage this season. We may be surprised by what he nets this time of year.

He’s not the guy who used to be able to reliably fill in as a 2C or carry a 3rd line possession wise, but he’s still a decent 3C and would be a top 4C for a team that needs it and can afford him (with or without retention).

Versatile player. Can play center or wing. Solid penalty killer. Plus he has the pedigree of being a Stanley Cup Champion.

His play has dipped but I’d be blaming that on his linemates at this point if I were GMBM. Gotta sell him a bit and get a max return.
