Twabby gets the potential for a potent quick turnaround, possibly here right now.

Also, consider that by NOT moving out any of our young prospects, we get the luxury for allowing a few to blossom over the next two years. That happens, and if it won't happen to the team that doesn't allow for it. Especially Ivan.

Also, everyone is focused on Ovi's contact end. If the Caps are retooled with a young new core ready to seriously contend for Cups, does he just retire. I bet not. A succession of one year deals could follow with Ovi as team leader and using that shot for 20 goals a year at least for another few years at least.
Hard to imagine him playing four years from now. I want him here as long as he wants to play, but I don't think he wants to outlive his usefulness. It's inconceivable that he would be a legit top 6 winger on a contending team at that point. He'd be getting a handful of sheltered minutes and powerplay time, which is exactly the kind of thing he's said he doesn't want to do.

Shhhh…we’re going tanking. Tanking under cover.
I know….why they mad? Lol….embrace it people!

Only need to go to the Predators board and look through their threads/comments related to his treatment/handling of Kevin Fiala. His handling of Fiala only resulted in his trade to the Wild and now Fiala (now with the Kings) is on track with back to back 30 goal seasons.

As someone has noted Lavy's strength is with coaching established teams, he's just not a teacher of the game and patient with the young players.
So one guy…..his whole career….and that’s the “book” on him? /eyeroll

I wish our bag of pucks (youngsters) was better……anyway….feels like we’re past this same old convo…..we should enjoy the quiet tank and embrace all lesser roster selections IMO.

No way….he‘s long gone home by then….and while this is a nice dream to completely retool the core into a Cup worthy one BEFORE his contract is up…..it’s a fantasy.

Did you all know that Caps draft pick Suzdalev and Bedard are teammates with the Regina Pats? Man that would something if we got Bedard, but it would take a disastrous tank and some luck to even have a real chance.

If they drop two places in the overall standings they’ll have a 3% chance at Bedard. And a 6.3% chance at top 2 overall.

Those odds are at least imaginable. It’s the odds of flipping 4 heads in a row.

Panthers just beat the Ducks in OT 4-3, so they hopped 2 points ahead of us, but they have played 2 more games now. I don't see the Caps beating nobody right now, so any games in hand don't give them any advantage.

Washington has five games before the deadline: vs Detroit, vs Anaheim, vs NYR, @ Buffalo, @ Anaheim. Would be par for course this year for them to beat Detroit and Anaheim twice and lose to New York and Buffalo leaving them in no man's land. Dowd coming back makes a pretty big difference I think as does Ovi obviously. With strong goaltending and adding two useful players back it wouldn't shock me to see them go 3-2, 2-2-1, or even 4-1, even with how bad they've been playing recently.

BMac has surprised me before but I just don't see them selling. Can't see them telling Ovechkin they're punting on this season.

Yeah you're right! Why would I even bring this up, it's not like we've seen similar behavior from him during his tenure behind the Caps bench.

Been watching him/them every chance I get this year….he’s sneaky good.

With some semi-ready almost good enough to be NHL’ers sure!

Our top 6 forward group is soooo bad. Look at Ottawa - not even in the playoffs (and yes they have sucked for a few years in order to rebuild), but have to be pretty happy with this. Three 20 goal scorers and 2 more who will have 20 goals in the next week:

Admittedly their bottom 6 falls off a cliff in terms of points but that doesn't really matter if your top 6 are producing.

Yeah Siegenthaler just needed a few more years.

You never define ready beyond “playing”, and assume the coach will always play them if ready. It’s self fulfilling and empty
Hell, I think he was probably a better option than Chara the year they had both, but Lavi wasn't willing to see what he had even after it was clear Chara was cooked.

For the Caps, it's now or never. Last week's three-game homestand left them empty-handed; it was the first homestand of three or more games in which they came up pointless since January of 1997, when they were still headquartered in Landover's USAir Arena. Since the calendar flipped to 2023, Washington has won only two of nine home games (2-6-1), and it has held a scoreboard lead for a mere 96:01 of the 548 minutes of hockey it has played D.C. over that span....

Washington entered the New Year with the 11th best record (21-13-5) in the NHL. But since the calendar turned, the Caps' 7-11-1 record ranks 30th in the circuit, ahead of only Columbus and Vancouver.

If any club interested in Nicky, they have to listen (I say that as someone who has enjoyed watching 19 more than any other Cap in this era). Trottier extended his career and won 2 more Cups as a 3rd liner with Pittsburgh. He could be potentially help a young-ish team with a good collective motor rate.

We are obviously the opposite of that. We were before he returned, and he and Osh are just anchors now. Not their fault - they might be useful players on another team, but they can no longer help this one because the front office just decided to ignore reality.

Hell, I think he was probably a better option than Chara the year they had both, but Lavi wasn't willing to see what he had even after it was clear Chara was cooked.
Chara over Siegenthaler was so Caps front office. Disregard a promising young player for one 5 to 7 years past his prime

But if they didn’t get Chara then who would have mentored Nick Jensen and turned him into the player he is today?????
