McILrath's call up I believe is replacement filler. In anticipation of them moving some defensemen via trade they're looking to give McILrath some time to get acclimated/mesh with the team and coaches. Because of waivers there's been very little shuttling of dmen between Hershey and the Caps, not the same for the forwards (Snively, Protas, McMichael) who have had the opportunities to spend time with the Capitals.

Bottom line this suggests at least one dman being traded if not more and that McILath could be part of the Caps defensive corps for the remainder of the season.

If Alexander Kerfoot is really on the Leafs’ tradeblock, how about moving Orlov for Kerfoot, and a 2024 1st round pick?
You must be a Leafs fan with that proposal.

Leafs will have to add Matthew Knies (that's a must) and looking at the draft pieces that the Leafs have, for Orlov it would have to be both the '24 and '25 1st round picks. They can include Kerfoot, a pending UFA to make it work cap wise.

Keep in mind these 1st round draft picks from the Leafs in all likelihood will be in the twenties.

Didn’t realize Kerfoot was a UFA next season. So yes, the trade pieces would need to be altered. Maybe a provision to add a second 1st round pick if Orlov resigns with Leafs?

With a number of Capitals pending UFAs, it'll be an understanding that they'll be negotiations in setting the price/value on such players with other teams that may be interested.

Not the case with Orlov, this is a top 3 dman. Caps can just put it out there that this is what it's going to cost and as I said, when you're dealing with some of these teams their first round picks are in the high twenties so that's part of the consideration process. You know what you are getting with Orlov, not so with picks or even prospects, hence the need to add more.

Wouldn't mind Kerfoot and a first for Orlov. Opens cap room, gives us a middle 6 forward to replace one of the ones we hopefully trade away and gives us a first round pick.

1st round pick is a poor return for Orlov. That's what we should be asking for Jensen with retention.

D market is terrible, as it often is. Don't want to pay up? Have fun seeing your rival add him then. Next best thing on the market is... Gavrikov. Who will likely return a 1st or close to it too.

Too much weight is given by posters regarding the round of a draft pick return while ignoring where within said round the pick maybe.

Case in point, the teams that may be interested in trading with the Capitals in most cases will have late picks within a round based upon how they finish. So the initial idea of getting a first round return will be a short lived feel good sensation until you realize it's the 30th pick within said round, which in my opinion when speaking of the first round is really an early 2nd round pick. Hence the reason for the need for multiple high picks and prospects for the likes of an Orlov.

If Mcilrath is indeed up because of a pending ir future trade of a d-man ... And if that d-man is AA in an effort to add/be a buyer, I may pull my fingernails out with a vise and clothespin.

Anyone but AA I guess.

Laviolette is a dipshit. Anyone defending this buffoon should feel shame.
Only need to go to the Predators board and look through their threads/comments related to his treatment/handling of Kevin Fiala. His handling of Fiala only resulted in his trade to the Wild and now Fiala (now with the Kings) is on track with back to back 30 goal seasons.

As someone has noted Lavy's strength is with coaching established teams, he's just not a teacher of the game and patient with the young players.
