Chasing the Horvat trade isn’t going to be a good idea. We are coming up to an important off-season and need to really look at what this team will be in the next couple years. I don’t want to go chase some TDL deal to lose more futures and maybe lose to Boston 4-1 if we are lucky.
Agreed.

If we're worried about keeping up with a team as mediocre as the Islanders, than maybe we shouldn't be spenders.

Unless negotiations with Jensen and/or Orlov aren't going well I simply don't see the need for a defender outside of maybe a 6D they trust more than Irwin. But that really shouldn't hinge on what they do with Eller.

Any serviceable right-shot D would be good for us right now. Bonus points for one that can load the cannon on the PP because as good as Gus has been he's not a great fit for that spot.

Our D has enough issues without Irwin and AA eating minutes. We don't need guys playing on their weak side to boot.

My guess after Strome

Orlov- resigned
Gus or Jensen resigned but not both
Sheary 50/50

On the block

Eller - 7 Dman
Mantha- Free
Kuzy - doubt we have the guts to pull the trigger
Lindgren- I am interested in his value around the league

I say keep Lindgren and get Kuemper to the Sabres at the TDL if we're not safely in a playoff spot.

I believe they'll keep Kuzy until summer, however we could see an old hockey typed trade with him. As for Mantha his past reputation as a Red Wing might attract some for a reclamation, but that contract pretty steep considering his current production. I understand what you mean about Lindgren, however I rather keep him. I don't see Eller going anywhere.

Mantha is not free, and the Caps love Lindgren, think he’s a starter, but don’t necessarily want to move him…yet. Now if someone wants to pony up a 1st this year….let’s talk lol…..

I think after the Stadium Series Game, Saturday, February 18th, BMAC will decide if they're sellers or not. By that time they will have been back from the AS break for a week and will have already played the Bruins, the Canes twice, Panthers and Sharks. Should have a good read on where the team is by then and still have a little less then two weeks before the TDL.

Well being a bottom of the league team does. I do see your point, but Kuemper would probably be happier on the Sabres going forwards....

So they want to see at least Strome and Backstrom as C next year now.

Kuzy... he's not playing like 1C? Too expensive? Sure.
But is it worth to deal him in this case? I dont think its the first move to do at least.

Take Mantha and Oshie. Both aren't that much cheaper than Kuzy but both are worse players (to me at least).

I say deal Mantha at deadline or draft, then explore moving Oshie. If Kuzy was 5M center - nobody would say he's overpaid. So its about 3M more than most would be satisfied with? Trim some other fat and live with 7.8M Kuzy then.

If Backstrom is able to play his last two seasons - then maybe move Kuzy. Maybe.

This season wingers of value are Sheary and Mojo. Very cheap now, won't be this good next season most probably. Dismiss them and keep Mantha/Oshie? Doesnt look good.

that has to work. I dont see trading Kuzy and getting 3C (in system or not) with more defensive ability (read - less talented offensively) as a better option.

Wilson, Brown, Sheary, Johansson, Milano will be ok to me to fill those 5 Xs. Some of them probably wont be back, but I bet there will be someone more like them than like Mantha (from financial and work rate POV).

Id better invest in LD for Carlson

X-Carlson
Orlov-Jensen
Fehervary-TVR(future Iorio/Chesley)

keeps Fever salary demands in check a bit
helps Carlson in theory
GMBM just needs to find the fit

much easier to find the needed winger (this year showed it) than top-4 LD

If the cap goes up $2M and Orlov and Fever cost $8.5M they’d still have $13.5M for 4 wing and 3 defensemen if they only carry 20

the f***?

Move Kuznetsov. What is this bending over backwards just to excuse a guy who is categorically not living up to his role and value?
