Don't see how you could possibly complain about that, guy deserves it and isn't being paid much in the grand scheme of things

Side thought on these extensions.

Bmac looks like he’s trying to get them in before the trade deadline. I wonder if people who aren’t in negotiating with him and want to test UFA will be traded.
Hope so. Collect assets and play MOAR kids?

Amirite??

Next one is Mojo, right?
Orlov.

Then….. hopefully Jensen.

Then……. I don’t care even a little bit.

Why the two extension contracts announced at this time? What is BMGM thinking.
Would you rather he waited til the end of the season? They have SO many players to deal with of their own FA’s.

Pick the ones you want and get it done now. It will only get more expensive as you approach July 1 (or whenever the FA signing start period is)

Without speaking for the man? Keep guys you know you want to keep now before they potentially get more expensive, have something of a payroll/roster structure in mind that allows you to negotiate through trade/contracts down the road without overpaying out of growing desperation.

Generally agreed. Some flexibility going forward since the Capitals want to compete during AO's chase for the goal scored record. Strome seems a no brainer. Milano I'm a little more meh he's competing well but against some team feels like his spot in the line up should go to a bit more of a grinder style with some size like a Protas. But the term is low and if it doesn't pan out can bury in the minors.

Solid extensions.

I dont get why people want to sell Eller for whatever price. If we need the cap space, fine, but if theres nothing else cooking then ill rather have more depth than, say a late 3rd rounder. As said we have a lot of b2bs and quite a battle incoming with highly injury prone personnel. Relax a bit, you only have to see him for roughly 30 games and he will be out anyways. Just watch the SC goal couple times and try to tolerate him for another few months :)

I think Orlov extension will be ”easy” for both sides. I mean, unless he hires Ovie for his agent as Ted would budge in for pretty much anything Ovies asks. Generally I cant see Orlov being really interested to ”test his value”, he has always seemed like someone who likes to keep it simple and doesnt want to make a big number of himself. He has a role and life in DC and his played his whole career with Ovie, so id figure he wants to see the record chase and last miles of the era rather than move to a new city to challenge himself or whatever. His made enough money and Caps can offer him something close to fair value.

Jensen is tougher. Caps have been really good for him. They trusted him with a long contract early on and already have his BFF signed for years to come (with a teamfriendly contract too). But he also deserves a big enough raise that we might not be able to give. So it will be long discussion i think, and id say he want to stay but also that theres a fair chance his camp wants to see what the market has to offer before making a decision.

Doubt they can afford both Orlov and Jensen, unless they jettison Kuzy and Mantha. We can dream.
Perhaps. Perhaps not. I think Mantha will get dealt. They have too much tied to forwards now, versus D, when it comes to money.

I think the 10-11m mark is where you hope to slot that D pair (Orlosen?). Above 11m because really hard to do, IMO

I tried to give Mantha the benefit of the doubt and some time to prove himself but I'm out.

Kuzy is probably afforded one more chance in the postseason before he's shipped out and CMM is penciled in at 3-4C.

You can keep one or the other of Carlson or Eller due to their boat anchor status in the playoffs recently. So I guess it'll be Carlson.

Feel like that Strome extension probably sealed the deal on that. Can't imagine you have 3 centers making something like 22 or 23 million of your cap. Unless they try playing him at Wing I guess, but I can't see that happening.

What does this even mean? Are you implying they are not going to get a new C if they ship Kuznetsov out? Yeah NO. Bäckström, Strome, Eller, CMM would be the worst 4C in the whole NHL. The only way I see them shipping him out if they already have a 1C replacement for him. I know people are frustrated with Kuzy but he is literally the best and the only 1C on the team.

Have you seen CBJ? Philly? Chicago? It's not great but many teams are worse. If Bäckström is near usual form it's good C depth and you're forgetting about Dowd who is great. I also don't think Eller is a Cap next season.

We have one of the best 4Cs in the NHL

What? First off this doesn't seem to take into account the realities of the situation. They have holes all over and not alot of money to fill those holes. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a fools errand. Secondly they aren't keeping Eller.

Backstrom and Strome are both fine as your top 6 centers, if Backstrom recovers. If he doesn't, they're screwed anyway. You can't be competitive with a 9 million dollar healthy scratch or 4th line player. Dowd mans the 3rd or 4th line depending on whether you want defense or offense. CMM/Protas/Lapierre can man the 4th line center or be the guy that comes off for doubles at 3rd line until one steals the spot.

They spent 17 million on their top 3 centers during the longest part of their run when they were a fully fleshed out team, before people started getting paid. Why would they want to spend an extra 5 million on top of that when they've got holes elsewhere? It's more likely GMBM would go dumpster diving for a reclamation project then he is bringing back a high dollar center.
