How has backstrom looked thus far?
Like he’s in training camp…

Here let me try

Ovechkin-Dowd-Oshie
Milano-Eller-Wilson
Johansson-Strome-NAK
Sheary-Backstrom-Hathaway
13thF: Kuznetsov
14thF: Matt Irwin

How has Kuznetsov been the worst player on the ice the last 2 games but he remains 1C while Strome, the teams actual best center is 4C/healthy scratch. The winger pairings are actually fine just put Strome on Ovechkin’s line, Kuznetsov with Mantha, and Dowd back with Hathaway. Not that complicated.

only been said like 1,000 times already but keep Backstrom and Wilson together for the sake of the other lines and it all gets easier. Tag Mantha to them since he played a lot with Backstrom. Then you get Ovi-Strome-Sheary back together. Milano-Kuz-Oshie had some okay moments. Then you can stick one of eller or mojo with Dowd-Hath. How has this thought process and logic not found its way through the coaching staff yet when like everyone here and on twitter has basically posted the same combos?

It's like they're still looking for the right mix but you can get the right mix through basic process of elimination!

Seems obvious they don’t see that as the longterm solution, so they’re searching.

We'll see, but like I've said, I think when Lavi has options he tends to make bad decisions with player/lineup management.

They can still do it for the short term to get them up to game speed and separate them during practice reps. Wilson was awful the other night and Backstrom is at the very least rusty.

No reason to be dropping points to gift players slots, right?

can’t gift players slots who have already earned them and are paid massively for them. You have to integrate them.

I like the line tinkering…..it’s a long season. It was getting too quiet here with minimal complaints due to winning anyways…..;)

Posting again but it really is just baffling to think that Strome could potentially be on the 4th line (as a wing) or healthy scratched when he is legitimately their best center. And that they haven’t put him back with Ovechkin and Sheary after those 3 were dynamite together and now look awful with 92 in between them.

Hopefully they put Strome in between Mantha and Oshie tomorrow and put Dowd where Eller was in practice. Seems like common sense but this would be ridiculous.

you absolutely can, what happened to "produce and play"?

Doing it for a return game made some sense, it's a moment. Continuing to do it when they haven't exactly hit the ground running is goofy. Backstrom should be the NHL poster child for load management right now anyway with his procedure, personally not even sure I'd play him every game right now let alone basically just chucking him where he used to be.

like... you don't think Strome has earned a little more than Kuznetsov at the moment? Why is a past contract at all a consideration when the guy isn't playing at his value anyway? Yes, you obviously want your best paid players playing best... but sometimes they just don't and you don't need to shoot yourself in the collective foot trying to get them in gear.

Shit, especially when Ovechkin and Kuznetsov just don't work anymore anyway.

I saw this online earlier and it made me sick

Lines at practice today:

Ovechkin - Kuzy - Sheary/Kubel alternating
Milano - Backstrom - Wilson
Oshie - Dowd - Mantha
Mojo/Strome alternating - Eller - Hathaway

They're trying things out since they're now 3pts out of 2nd in the division and 5pts clear in the wild card.

If they lose the ground they've gained and threaten to fall out of a playoff spot look for the lines to revert to something closer to what we had in December.

I don't even think Strome is that good but putting him at 4LW is a joke.

How can anyone honestly tell me Lavi operates a meritocracy? What kind of reward is that for Strome?

Man Lavy is terrible at making lines.

He made getting Backstrom and Wilson back a bad thing.
Real talk, it was always gonna be a bad thing in the short term
