Kuzy away from Ovi will fall under instant pressure because no team will mistake who's the most dangerous player on his line.

with Ovi he has more room and hes actually scored lots of goals last year,I don't see a problem.

some more defensive starts should not ruin them, but facilitating Strome by messing with Kuz looks like the wrong direction to me

Hello Caps fans.

Can you let me know if I'm drunk or not when it comes to Orlov versus Carlson?

IMO Orlov is clearly the better defenseman and has been the last few years.

I think it’s close. I’d lean toward Orlov mainly because he has proven much more impactful in recent playoff runs and because he’s an overall more reliable defensive player while still bringing a significant offensive impact. If Carlson didn’t turn into a pumpkin every postseason I’d lean toward Carlson as the better player. But the playoffs have to be given significant weight, and of late Orlov has been much better in those games.

Carlson’s clear advantage over Orlov is on the power play and ES point scoring. But in terms of overall impact as measured by GAR, both are about equal over the last 3 regular seasons.

From my viewing I thought Orlov played quite poorly these last playoffs. He made a few mistakes and he had trouble carrying the puck up ice, which is his biggest strength. He was effectively neutralized that series.

I don't know what the fancy stats say on this but the eye test tells me Orlov wasn't that great either.

I put Carlson slightly ahead of Orlov, based on more minutes and worse partners than Orlov.

I like me some Orlov but he never quite reached the offensive potential I thought he could get to. He's a good top pairing dman, but he's no #1D like Calrson can be... sometimes.

Orlov is the more well-rounded of the two players, Carlson is the one with the higher peak potential (particularly offensively). Orlov could have higher offensive stats on another team that could fit him into their PP1 scheme more easily, but I'm not sure he has the prototypical offensive potential. Orlov has had ups and down in the playoffs since the Cup, but Carlson has had nothing but downs in the past four playoffs.

I'd rate Orlov higher, but both are low-end #1s.

I agree Orlov had a poor postseason this year, probably his worst since the Cup run. At least that’s what my friend who watches the games told me. I think the numbers are a little more generous toward him, but the whole team was also better able to control play than the past 3 years.

It’s hard for me to overlook Carlson’s complete lack of production the past 4 postseasons. Despite being the second most productive defenseman in the NHL over the past 4 seasons at 5v5, he’s only managed 2 points at 5v5 in the last 4 postseasons. Orlov has 9.

So if we are saying one of Carlson’s superior aspects over Orlov is his ability to put points on the board but he’s shown incapable of doing so when it matters most, I think he has to be dinged for it.

I'm in the trade Carlson fan club but Orlov simply can't match Carlson's offensive production. That said I'd put Orlov on the ice 10/10 before Carlson if situationally defending a lead.

Read the article on Backstrom that came out a week ago. Does he have any shot coming back by December? Or if he is able to come back, is it looking more like a playoff timing?

By december? I would say no way but anything is possible. If he ever comes back i would guess it's closer to march so he gets some games before the Playoffs.

Might aswell but i don't think they are going to do that and throw him straight into the Playoffs if they deem him ready before.

Hags spotted skating with the boys today. Maybe hes going to be on the roster this season. We will have to see the training camp rosters

Seems more and more likely that Hags will be playing at some point this year. Will be interesting if he is on the ice with everyone as more players come back to Arlington.

I won’t hate it if he plays this year. If not him on 4LW then the depth chart (pre-camp) is likely Mojo, Sheary, Eller, AJF, Malenstyn. Cap hit aside, I’d take Hags over all of them.

Hagelin is a great 4th liner, unfortunately he's paid like a 3rd liner.

I agree Carlson has sucked these past 4 playoffs but I wouldn't say he's never shown up to the playoffs.

Carlson used to be clutch in the playoffs, going back to his debut in 2010.

If we can get a 3rd liner we pay like a 4th liner it washes out!

It's hard to look back at pre-2018 Carlson and think that is who we can expect going forward, rather than 2019-2022 Carlson. One or two poor postseasons in a row might be a fluke, but 4?

Carlson will likely decline now but he’s still had really good seasons post 2018 and award voting reveals that. Dude was runner up to the Norris not long ago.

I think it’s a little knee jerky to single out Carlson for his poor playoff play when so many other Caps haven done the same. Even the goat goal scorer.

how many healthy and on the right side of the ice? 2-ish? Same place you could argue is fluke territory?

can't have this explained to you too many more times.
