On whether the Rangers have proven they DO have the personnel to play Vigneault’s preferred attacking, offensive style, which in November even Vigneault said himself didn’t appear to be the case: “I think the way we’re playing at this point is a smart game at both ends of the rink. We’re not giving up a stupid number of chances against. I think we’re playing sound defensively, and offensively, two things in my estimation are happening: Our power play – it hasn’t scored the last couple, we haven’t had a lot of power plays – but it’s given us momentum; it’s given us good opportunities. And five-on-five, we’re playing a little bit faster. We’re playing a little bit quicker with the puck, and I think that’s enabled us to generate a fair amount of shots and a fair amount of shots that, for the most part, have been good scoring opportunities. So like any team – I think (I said this) one of the first times we met – some teams during the season get better, some teams fade away. If you want to be part of the big picture, you’ve got to get better. And I believe our group is getting better.”
