I think Ideally we move Dickenson to the wing and get a 3C like Mcleod from NJD. He isnt bad player but his lack of offensive instincts and faceoff ability isnt what you would like to see from a 3C on a contender

worth noting that Ryan Hartman has 7 points in 12 games thus far (six goals.)

We might have been too generous to Dickinson with our comps.

Kills penalties, plays throughout the top-9 and is 50% in the dot too. Oopsies we got tunnel vision on a player again.

I was reading Dayal's article in the Athletic that came out prior to last night's game. Dayal was quite praiseworthy of Dickinson's 5 v 5 play. He called him "a legitimate difference-maker" and a "huge upgrade from seasons past where the third line has routinely been outscored by huge margins." Now he might have been propped up by Garland and Pods but according to Dayal, 5 v 5, he does have "the seventh-best shot suppression rate of all NHL forwards" and "the best shot share of all Vancouver forwards." Again that was before last night.

If only Dickinson can improve his faceoff skills and put up a bit more offense...

So I guess he hasn't been as bad as the eye test suggests. He might be one of those players who look a whole lot better on a good team or when we actually have a 1C producing like a #1C.

Just brutal on the 1st goal

At least he was kind of there. Just didn't get the job done.

Nic Dowd, perhaps a slightly worse player, just got signed to a 1.3x3 contract extension

I didn't think Dickinson was going to be this vanilla or that his contract was particularly bad when signed, but this is looking like its going to be a pretty big whiff

Totally.

The 4 contracts I initially used as a comparison to put Dickinson in the $1.8 - $2.0 range were Hartman/Blueger/Fast/Stephenson. Fast was a winger but then Dickinson had been playing mostly wing as well.

In all 4 cases, I was far, far too generous.

This is a 4th line C/borderline 3rd line winger who is probably worth something in the $1.2 - $1.4 range. The Nic Dowd contract, as mentioned above, seems to be the best comp at this point.

It feels disgusting for me to say I'd rather see Sutter than Dickinson in the lineup.

Why do we need this guy? We have foundational culture carrier Brandon Sutter to lock down the 3rd line C spot. Oh what? He didn't quite work out? I'm sure this time, Jason will though, ha ha hah

.

Dickinson has been about as good as anyone should've reasonably expected, and performed basically how I thought he would coming in.

He's been a shot-suppressing, zero offense winger. He's helped 5v5 defensive play significantly but has no scoring ability to speak of. This is what he was in Dallas. He was never a shutdown center there and has never displayed any offensive upside in his career.

It's almost axiomatic that when Jimbo coughs up a draft pick for a player from another team and then re-signs him, it just never works out. Dickinson cost us a third rounder. But Sutter cost a second; Gudbranson a second and fourth; Pouliot a fourth; Pedan a third; Vey a second; Baertschi a second; Prust a fifth; Schmidt a third; and those are just ones I can remember. There's probably others.

So Dickinson is just the latest in a long list of bad trades doubled down by signing the guy to a new long-term deal. After awhile all you can say is 'whatever'.

He can't help but bleed assets. I think we should all be used to it by now.
