Don't bother. For a long time, the board is just a hate group for Benning and Aqua. No objectivity to be seen.

I said this last night and was torn apart. Management seems to lack direction. Not rebuilding, not contending. We should be signing players to value deals, which the Oilers seem to be doing of late.

The whole "black and white" type of attitude usually amounts to nothing. Benning did some horrendous moves, but there are a few moves that have worked.

You'd think that after 8 year of crap, people would objectively look at each deal instead of just accepting the management as their new gods. They've already made some that make you think twice.

Garland PPG the season he signed the Contract .8

Ilya PPG the season he signed his contract .6

“The exact same player”

When the entire fanbase of said player laughs at the contract he signs it usually not a good thing.

Dom’s (not even going to try to type his name here) model says Ilya Mikhayev is overpaid by .75

That's pretty good for a UFA signing then, which are inherently overinflated.

We're all so used to overpaying by 2.5-3MM that this is totally doable.

He was a career 7.3% shooter that scored 14.3% last year. That's not sustainable.

Garland IS incredible value. He's the Canucks single best even-strength performer, which also includes a guy that had 99pts. His P/60 just misses the league top 50, and is tied with Sebastian Aho. Garland is also a penalty drawing machine; 6th best in net differential.

Basically, he's Miller before he blew up in Van. If he gets traded for pennies on the dollar, this management deserves the scrutiny that comes it's way.
Hey, I wasnt criticizing Garland, i was just trying to put Mikheyev into perspective. Garland was getting paid 4.9 million before he accomplished anything you describe above. I was reading "good value" posts all over the place. This player brings unique elements to the table, scored more than Garland...but hes somehow overpaid??

There's also a bit of Mason Raymond-ism with this player in their fanbase.

Just like Raymond for us was a really good two-way 2nd line winger for awhile who a dumb segment of the fanbase hated 'because he fell down lots' this is a really good two-way player for them who a dumb segment of their fanbase hated because he missed scoring chances while he was tilting the ice in his team's favour from tough minutes.
Raymond in 2009-10 was an excellent player. It's a shame what happened to him after.

People forget how effective he was:

Ok. Just making sure, you think the Mikheyev deal is fine even if he reverts back to his ~7% shooting.

I think 4,75 is a ton for what is likely a PK specialist.

I don't think he'll score 32 goals the way he was tracking last year.

I do think he'll still put up 20-20-40 as a play-driving middle-6 winger and PK ace even when his shooting % regresses into the 10% range.

Excellent player, makes our top 9 very good. Better suited for the 2nd line than Pearson and Hoglander. Canucks salary cap issue is the big concern.

I think you make a good point in that they are not the same player. However, I also think that given where this team is right now, if possible you should trade the better player for assets and then sign a replacement for free who might only give you 75%-80% of the player.

This is an outstanding signing for us. Good size, outstanding speed, PK, solid defensively and is strong along the boards. His production last year, pacing at 30 goals 50 points put his contract right in this range. He put up those numbers playing 15 mins a night, 2/3rds of which were Dzone starts. Fills huge needs for us.

IM will get a much bigger offensive role here with the Canucks. With him a Lazar in the mix, we are much tougher to play against. I love this deal, and feel it will be one of the better value deals that get signed today.

Does anyone REALLY think that a player like Mikheyev is going to regress offensively under Bruce Boudreau?
If he doesn't regress, does anyone REALLY think that $4.75m is too much for a 50 point player who can drive his own offense and play both ends of the ice?

He’s probably stoked to play under the guy who made ovechkin

Garland wasn't a UFA and doesn't have any pk utility

A "career 7.3% shooter" - in less than 100 NHL games. Very misleading. There's no real reason to think that his 7% in 80 games from 2019-21 is significantly more meaningful than the 14% he put up in 50 games last year. The overall 10% he's put up over his entire career is a perfectly reasonable projection, and he doesn't need to "sustain" 14% to be a good player.

All the stuff about Garland is what happened after he was signed, which is irrelevant to the point being made.

Point is, $4-5M is perfectly reasonable for a player of this quality, just as it was for Garland at the time it was signed.

I feel like this is a top 6 signing. Him and Podz gives us a bit of sandpaper in the top 6.

I know it is a monumental task but I hope they are working on resolving the D issues. That is a way, way bigger problem for this team.

Very talented player with good upside. Great motor and true upper end speed. Started to breakthrough last year. Would have shown even more in my opinion had he not been behind talented upper end players Toronto have.

Calling this a "Benning signing' IMO shows a lack of knowledge about this player and I'm seeing this as long term up grade for the team

Believe he is a much better overall player than Boeser and certainly covers the ice a ton better.

"Different strengths and weaknesses"

Is it possible that one of these players generates substantial value from being an excellent high-leverage defensive forward and elite PK guy and the other one does not, and that that balances off the difference in hockey card stats?
