Hes better offensively, but he will likely be deployed shut down minutes and be eaten the way Gudbranson was as a Canuck, hence the new Gudbranson. Playing over what hes capable of bringing.
I know what you mean.

I think that’s what they’ll do too, but I think Myers is easily better than that bonifide scrub at everything.

I'm not completely disgusted with this contract. We'll just have to cross our fingers and hope that it works out now.

Yea when I say they are comparable its more of how they will be deployed.

I know Myers is superior overall than Gudbranson but I do not see him being an upgrade over Hutton and hes easily inferior than Stecher so this definitely makes for a trash signing.

I would rather have Hutton at 4 million than Myers at 5 million, let alone at 6.

This offseason is hilarious from our fanbase...almost embarrassing.

Podkolzin Hoglander great picks

Miller or a 16% chance of getting Miller or better.

Myers Hughes and Benn for Pouliot Gudbranson and Del Zotto and it looks like Hutton

Edler 2x6

No terrible contracts....much better looking team. Way to go Benning

I don't think you've got that right. Myers will probably get predominantly offensive minutes along with Hughes.

Tanev, Stecher and Benn have various degrees of mediocre to poor offense, while Edler has always been more of a two-way guy.

I may be recalling it wrong, but the one place Myers is actually pretty good is in transition and in terms of even strength offense.

I expect they're signing him as an offensive player.

I don’t.

Tyler Myers is “big, strong and has a long stick” which is why Jimbo probably signed him as a “Zdeno Chara”.

You’re likely to hear all of this in the introduction press conference.

I think they’re going to pencil him in as an all situation top pairing defender.

Except that Gudbranson gets eaten alive even when he's on the bottom pairing.

Gudbranson is next level bad, so much so that he makes even a guy like Lucas Sbisa look tolerable, in hindsight. Myers might eventually become the next Sbisa, though, at least when he stops putting up decent numbers.

I dont see that given the management has shown many feats of poorly evaluating hockey players putting them in positions that dont fit their strengths.

IMO they are stupid enough to assume Myers can play the shutdown role because hes 6'8!!

Would be great if they deploy him the way you stated tho.

Like I said Myers is superior than Gudbranson but he will be eaten the way the latter did last season through how they are similarly deployed. Im looking forward to November.

Myers sucks defensively too. Jets fans have stated this over and over. I will take their word on it.

The notion that draft picks value is gauged like that is exceptionally dumb.

Why don’t NHL teams consistently trade their 1st round picks if that’s the case?

Maybe I'm just too optimistic, but the defense needs to drive the play more offensively than simply be geared towards shutdown, and Myers has pretty darn decent offensive underlying numbers.

I agree he needs to be sheltered, but we have enough defensive minute soakers to shelter him... Until the annual injury run.

No I agree completely. I think he’s actually a useful player if deployed properly.

Myers does seem to be a significant upgrade on whatever the hell Pouliot was as they seem to play similar games.

Yeah, but I would still just emphasize (not that you've necessarily contradicted it) that even ignoring his offensive game, his defensive game, as terrible as it is, is still an upgrade on Gudbranson's defensive game, which isn't saying much.

5x6 is not terrible because its at least reasonable market value. Not a crazy over pay. And I hate Benning as much as anyone but Myers to Guddy comparisons are crazy. Myers is at least good at stuff that can help you win hockey games, not just intangibles.
