Looks like he's back in his early season form from last year. Points might not be there yet, but he looks a lot better than he did in the back half of the year last season.

Nah there's no need. We gave him a $$$ contract mostly based on his chemistry with Hughes. I'm sure that Hughes and Hronek will get to play with others over time but if Hronek allows Hughes to play his best then Hronek is earning his money.

Well I don't doubt that Hronek is a legitimate #3 Dman on his own in this league. We might be overpaying him because of his success alongside Hughes. Either way he's signed and I'm hoping for the best.

I do wonder how sliding Hronek down to his own pair with a LHD from the trade market, or for example giving Hughes an Andersson, would be the silver bullet that activates our dormant second line instead of just hammering EP for not stepping up enough.

It's not like EP hasn't played with Hughes and Hronek though. Not as much as Miller but not insignificant.

Hronek would be a #1 Dman on 10-12 other NHL Clubs while running their point on PP1. Very good defenceman that gets overshadowed by a great defenceman.

I wouldn't pay that I just think that's what kind of ask the Flames will be able to make. He's a young #1RD that plays physical and scores. If I'm the Flames I'm asking for the moon.

Anderson isn't really a rental though, he's the equivalent of JT Miller for us a few seasons ago. Signed through next season as well at a $4.5M cap hit.

I don't know if I'd want the team to do it but that should be about the price to convince Calgary to move him this season. Who knows Calgary might be able to keep their early play up and have no intention of selling later in the season.

I don’t remember the last time a blue chip prospect that is on track to make the team within 1 season is traded for anyone at TDL. Owen tippet and even then it was just Tipper for Giroux + a bunch of stuff

My biggest concern is that the Flames turn around quickly and we end up basically killing our own window by beefing one of our divisional rivals up to the top.

To be clear I think it will probably be considered but I don't think Calgary will make Anderson available. Whether or not one considers it smart they're trying to ice a competitive team and should be looking to extend him in the summer. But no blue chip prospects don't get traded for deadline rentals, but kind of the point I'm making is an Anderson deal while hypothetically would occur at the deadline for cap reasons would be more of a hockey trade than a deadline rental.

If Calgary were inclined to sell him and rebuild it's a deal that cap allowing for maximum value could be made any time between the 2024 draft and the 2025 trade deadline. Once the latter is crossed, then there's a short window for Calgary to try and get better value by an early season 'sign and trade', which if they miss it comes down to a trade deadline deal and at that point they're getting the regular deadline assets - late 1st and later draft picks & second tier prospects, or nothing at all.

You won't find deadline deals but if you expand the trade of 1st line/top pair players with 2 years left to the draft then you'll find trade examples. My hockey mind tends to be stuck in the 2000's so the one that immediately springs to mind is Pavol Demitra for Patrick O'Sullivan - just scored like 90 points in his rookie AHL year, and the 17th overall pick.

I don't think Hronek is a stud just because he finally scored a goal yesterday. He is still underproducing this season. That said he does have 3 pts in his last 4 games, so hopefully he's starting to enter a hot streak, which seems like his memo, a streaky player who is still serviceable when cold.
