Not...entirely unwarranted, I fear. I would argue that we managed to get a good deal with the Metey trade ealier than TDL rush, which fits the bill with our current front office's style. If Boeser was not gonna be UFA or a reasonable extension is out of the question, I would not mind us being done.

But at this point, we simply cannot afford to lose any players for nothing. The Reign of Error scarred us pretty bad and any setbacks will be amplified.

The cap is projected to rise about 23% in the next few years. Which means if you want context on these long term salary obligations, knock off about 20% and you're seeing it in "today's dollars."

12m for Rantanen works out to ~9.25m in the current cap environment. Takes him well into his later 30s but, at that point any contender will probably be out of their window and the cap will be even higher.

Baffled that the Avs and Carolina couldn't make that work.
