Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | LOOKS LIKE GRUB IS BACK ON THE MENU, BOYS!

* Wonders if Ottawa Senators enter the mix; mentions willing to move Josh Norris in a larger trade and Thomas Chabot’s name is out there depending on who you talk to

LOL, good luck. Two guys on huge money deals that can't stay healthy. Ottawa's stuck with them.

Boys please remove this damn thread, I survived. I'm already in remission and the doctors said early this month that the prognosis is good. So remove this shit, back here and so forever grateful. I'd lost faith but the doctors in Singapore did a damn good job. They've send me home with the medicine, couldn't die on my kids. So still kicking, hopefully I make a full recovery and will be healthy forever. What a terrible experience it felt like I was dreaming, but I never gave up.

Go Canucks go!

Very happy to hear this!

Carolina Hurricanes & Colorado Avalanche
  • Conversations with the Avalanche started at the draft and escalated over the last 6 weeks
  • Hurricanes had other irons in the fire; names Miller & Pettersson
  • Zeroed in on Rantanen when the Avalanche thought they couldn’t sign him to an extension
  • Rantanen looked for 14m and the Avalanche were at 12m
  • Market value for Rantanen is 13-14m
  • Rantanen was confused and caught off-guard because with the days leading up to the trade, extension conversations had picked up
  • Doesn’t know if the Hurricanes are willing to sign Rantanen to a 14m contract but seem comfortable with 13m
Vancouver Canucks
  • Doesn’t think they are back to square one because have had discussions about Miller & Pettersson with several other organizations
  • Thinks the Hurricanes are pretty much out of the mix
  • New York Rangers still very much involved
  • Buffalo Sabres would love to acquire Elias Pettersson
  • Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild have had some conversations
  • Dallas Stars are in on Miller
  • Wonders if Pittsburgh Penguins would re-enter on talks; had loose discussions
  • A lot of options open to the Canucks
  • Want a resolution sooner than later; believes more so on Miller than Pettersson
  • If they are going to move Pettersson, it is for a massive return and will cost teams a lot; From the Sabres, for example, would by Dylan Cozens & Bowen Byram or Owen Power & another piece and then some additional pieces on both sides
  • Wonders if Ottawa Senators enter the mix; mentions willing to move Josh Norris in a larger trade and Thomas Chabot’s name is out there depending on who you talk to
  • Miller wants to find a resolution and have the situation move on; whether that is in Vancouver or elsewhere
  • Canucks know which teams Miller is willing to waive for and some teams still have permission to talk to his agent
  • Not near the finish line here
Jamie Oleksiak
  • Has a NTC and a year left on his contract
  • Mentions Toronto Maple Leafs and Stars
Ryan Donato
  • Has had a good season and only a 2m cap hit
  • New Jersey Devils, Maple Leafs, and other teams looking for bottom-6 centres will call

Think I might throw up if Norris is traded to Van.

Big difference between Power and Byram IMO. I'd also want Kulich.

Stars being in on Miller would be a positive.

This makes more sense to me than the consensus he wants out. He has said he likes the city and doesn’t seem to have issues outside the drama and the Pettersson stuff. I’m not convinced there isn’t an outcome where Pettersson goes and he’s still around.

Miller wants to move on, whether that is in Vancouver or elsewhere? Implying his resolution could involve still involve remaining in VAN?

Detroit should absolutely be in on Miller. Makes sense for them.

I think every outcome, even both staying on the team, is on the table. Definitely would not be surprised if Pettersson is traded and Miller remains on the team. Also wouldn't be surprised if Miller gets traded in the off-season.

Issue with Detroit is making the $$ work.

Would assume one of Copp or Compher would need to be included. Both have MNTC though.

You never know. Time heals all wounds, maybe there's a world where Miller turns a corner and finds the line he needs to read to be firm but fair.

People respect tough leaders, but when you cross the line that respect disappears. Maybe this drama blow up and media noise gives him the motivation to reign it in a bit.

My issue with keeping Miller over Petey is it puts a clear cap on any perceived window this team might have, which in turn makes me anxious about Quinn.

Keeping Petey gives us a longer runway and I think that's going to make a difference when it comes time for Hughes to decide his future.

Once again, Pagnotta has never gotten any thing right...ever

Oh absolutely not. He basically says many things about all the teams that when something happens, he can say he reported it. But, right now, no one is ultimately right about anything.

I think the most unlikely outcome is actually moving both. That leaves you way to open to the risk of tanking right as you're looking to sign Hughes. And I agree with your thought above, I think Miller would happily stay if everything quieted down.

God, I would do anything to trade EP to Columbus. They have an absolute treasure trove of young talent to part with compared to the rest. Which means even if they give us their 4th or 5th best U22 pieces, it's still better than many teams 1st or 2nd pieces.
sorry we're stuck with him. if they wanna give us cole sillinger for JTM i'd be all for it

I know a lot of people will hate this take, but I think I'd rather the Canucks dangle their 1st (lottery protected) for someone like Jake Walman (signed for another year) than trade Miller for scraps or Pettersson for a large downgrade at C.

And I say this as someone who has been massively frustrated with Petey this past year.

I still believe that winning will ease the tension, and this team has desperately needed another top 4 D that can move the puck and allow the forwards to do their jobs in the offensive zone. I'm tired of pointing out how this team can only score goals with Hughes on the ice.

I think their main goal will be to stay competitive through the rest of Hughes' deal, which Miller should allow. Frankly, at current and recent levels of play, building around centre ice with either Miller or Pettersson and then a 2C from the trade return, probably won't make a ton of difference over the next two years.

Yes. My personal belief is that Miller doesn't actually want to leave.

A lot of conflicting reports otherwise:

The timing of conflicting information is interesting to me:

- Miller gets offered up, decision was made 6 weeks ago.
- Pettersson asks to stay, rumours on him die.
- They can't find a deal for Miller, Pettersson, re-enters trade talk.
- Rumour is Miller has asked out/is done.
- CAR rumours on both players.
- Pettersson almost dealt. CAR gets Rantanen.
- Now nothing on both players.
- Miller ok with staying if they move Pettersson now?

I'm not sure this is not trade posturing.
