I think their main goal will be to stay competitive through the rest of Hughes' deal, which Miller should allow. Frankly, at current and recent levels of play, building around centre ice with either Miller or Pettersson and then a 2C from the trade return, probably won't make a ton of difference over the next two years.
Why would the next 2 years be the only important thing when Quinn is deciding whether to play the rest of his career in Van?

He'll be looking at the big picture. Success in the short term is great, but whoever we get back for Petey needs to have 1C potential to push Miller down the lineup as he ages.

Wasn't it was reported that Petey to Carolina got close to happening again before the Rantanen trade?

There's no way to really predict that ... you don't know what the cap will look like etc. Retaining one of Pettersson or Miller (plus trade returns) gives you the best chance of putting together a competitive enough roster to at least not make that an excuse when it comes time to negotiate. I don't really think it matters which ... if Pettersson doesn't bounce back you're just as screwed as if Miller declines.

No matter who you keep you're dealing with risk/unknowns either way. Some people seem to assume Pettersson will automatically bounce back, which I don't think is any sure thing.

God, that's a hard choice. Marky Mark is obviously the bigger star but nothing he's done is anywhere close to Donnie in Band of Brothers.
Marky was pretty good in The Departed.

Knowing our luck we would get Andy Samberg as Marky Markey instead of the real thing.

Boys please remove this damn thread, I survived. I'm already in remission and the doctors said early this month that the prognosis is good. So remove this shit, back here and so forever grateful. I'd lost faith but the doctors in Singapore did a damn good job. They've send me home with the medicine, couldn't die on my kids. So still kicking, hopefully I make a full recovery and will be healthy forever. What a terrible experience it felt like I was dreaming, but I never gave up.

Go Canucks go!
Having just lost my sister just a few weeks ago, I know how emotionally excruciating the whole ordeal is. Glad to hear somebody made it back from the brink.

A lot of conflicting reports otherwise:

The timing of conflicting information is interesting to me:

- Miller gets offered up, decision was made 6 weeks ago.
- Pettersson asks to stay, rumours on him die.
- They can't find a deal for Miller, Pettersson, re-enters trade talk.
- Rumour is Miller has asked out/is done.
- CAR rumours on both players.
- Pettersson almost dealt. CAR gets Rantanen.
- Now nothing on both players.
- Miller ok with staying if they move Pettersson now?

or mark wahlburg from the antiques roadshow

Miller wants to move on, whether that is in Vancouver or elsewhere? Implying his resolution could involve still involve remaining in VAN?

Detroit should absolutely be in on Miller. Makes sense for them.

I'm not sure this is not trade posturing.

This is a bit why i got bent out of shape in that other thread about saying miller wants out. In those conflicting reports do any of them say miller has asked out.

It is possible that millers first choice is to stay and he would accept a trade. They can coexist

Allvin hasn't exactly been pulling punches when it comes to Pettersson. It's like they both grabbed a leg and are dragging him through the mud together.
Yeah maybe I missed it but I don't recall JR saying anything nearly as harsh as Allvin?

That link references Daily FaceOff where Seravelli says:

"Likewise, Miller seems to have reached a point where he is ready to move on from the Canucks."

I don't know how you read that, but I see that as him wanting to go. In any case, "he is ready to go" is a lot different than "he's willing to stay if Pettersson goes".

The timing of this conflicting information is highly suspect.

I think every outcome, even both staying on the team, is on the table. Definitely would not be surprised if Pettersson is traded and Miller remains on the team. Also wouldn't be surprised if Miller gets traded in the off-season.

I have always read it as the team is done with Miller (players). Seems like that since the rumour came up that another star was tired of him, the. In hindsight coincides with his LOA. I have read it as Miller needs to go… but Pettersson may go too….

i read that as general BS these guys pump out all the time - just enough to get the attention but not putting their names to any statement.

outside of that random statement does that 'insider' state what is making it 'seem' like miller is ready to move on.

but again, the words 'ready to move on' you translate to 'wanting to go'. again it is possible his first choice is to stay but will accept a trade.

His LOA aligns with the rumours and Seravelli's statement. There's nothing pushing Seravelli to move toward the affirmative here.

"Ready to move on" as he's putting VAN in the rearview. Which conflicts with may or may not move on, depending upon what happens with Pettersson.

This latest bit of intel conflicts with most of what has come before.

Edit: Also the timing. The timing of all of this is suspicious considering they have not been able to move Miller.

Claims of insider information are taken very seriously. If you want to do that, you need to prove your sources through the proper avenues.
You know I’m right! Even if it is fun.
