I need @Vector to confirm, but I believe this may put us over the roster limit without a corresponding demotion or IR move?

Nope. They were at 22/23 with Mark Friedman being sent down. What is interesting is that there's no corresponding move. Joshua and Juulsen are both on IR and apparently close or will be returning. Pettersson, Karlsson, and Sasson can all be sent down without requiring waivers so I expect at least one forward to be sent down before tomorrows game.

Boy is my confidence in JR sapped!

Like, I was very weary from seeing how things went for him in PIT post cups and how much they spiralled, and was encouraged from last season which is clearly a bit of a PDO/luck mirage, but man. This just does not seem like a good way to handle things.
Jim Rutherford is 75. Lou Lamoriello is 82.

At some point, wisdom and experience age out due to an overall cognitive decline and changing societal situations.

it's unfortunate miller and pettersson both appear to be unable to put their differences aside but i think management and coaching own a lot of the blame for this whole situation. it seems like it's not a surprise to them there's an issue in the room and they appear to have done little more than appoint the problems to also be the solutions by naming pettersson and miller as assistant captains. that doesn't really give much support to hughes who is both younger and less experienced than either of them (altho marginally so in pettersson's case)

accepting that horvat wasn't part of the answer either i have to wonder why they didn't place a bigger priority on bringing in more veteran leadership to help shoulder some of the burden. arguably myers and boeser are the only guys filling that role in the room right now and neither of them really carry the reputation of someone who can settle a room. beyond that their veterans are all guys who have bounced around a lot or who have their own character questions like debrusk and hronek
I think it’s just rotten and there is no solution. I was worried back after the bubble playoffs when the team came out a disaster and looked like they could care less. Then Edler had enough, a guy who looked like he would be a lifer - red flag number 2 with this core. And two different management groups have brought in veterans over and over and some of those players looked like they couldn’t wait to get out of dodge.

Bruce said on multiple occasions that it was a quiet room. If there are cliques that don’t get along, then it becomes hard to get through tough times and turn things around. And all good teams are gonna go through rough times. Whenever this team has a rough patch, they just seem to spiral.

It sucks. But it is better to shed the denial and move on.

Get ready to learn Buffalonese, Pettersson

Maybe they can introduce him as...

My guess is that they might sit Hoglander and/or send Karlsson down with Joshua coming in and it’s not trade related as Raty has been on fire down there.

Sorry but this is a terrible interview to give unless there is a done deal already that we don't know about.

Even if we accept the notion of harming the team's leverage to get out in front of negative fan reaction to a bad return, which we absolutely should not, this kind of stuff can come out AFTER the trade is done. Hell, call a press conference to announce the trade and confirm the existence of the rift at that time.

To me this screams JR getting antsy and trying to put the pressure on PA to pull the trigger on a crap package through the media. Not good at all.

I read it as Rutherford trying to prepare the market for a poor trade return by saying “we had to do this.”

They could’ve made a trade without the leaks and gotten a much better return.

There’s no excuse for trading from a position of weakness and desperation.

Miller has 14 points in his last 16 games. He’s helping you win.

I do not want to see a trade happen until the offseason.
They went 6-7-3 during that time and were 1-2-3 in the games that Petey missed. 5-5-0 in the other 10.

Petey without Miller for 10 games and no Hronek as well. 5-3-2 and Petey had 15 points in 10 games.

Upon reading it again, there is also definitely some management covering its own ass in that interview ... "we had a plan and these guys ruined it."

Yep, disappointing to see the management that was so critical of things like controlled breakouts under Bruce Boudreau just completely silent on a Canucks team that simply can't play with the puck anymore.

Yeah, old school GMs are struggling when dealing with today's players and realities. They seem to think it's below them to deal with underperforming young players and they'd rather cut their losses and set the team back than try to figure it out.

Miller his last 16 games: 14 points.

Pettersson his last 16 games: 5 points.

Let’s trade the PPG guy making way less money in hopes that the guy playing at a 50 point pace can hopefully become PPG.

Fans going to turn on both players, if they haven't already.

Honestly, good. These guys get paid in excess of 100k USD a game. The rest of us have to work with dickhole colleagues and make less in a year than these guys do in a night. Figure out your shit, do your job, or gtfo. I sure as shit wouldn't want to spend money that goes directly to the salary of primadonna 1 and primadonna 2.

Bit disappointing with the two wins. I was hoping that this stretch of games would establish them as sellers, and get Boeser and Demko out the door for some futures-based returns.

The whole situation is a mess.

I don't know if there has been budget cuts but PR is non existent.

Or a normal person's version of PR atleast.
They need to let JR go. He's waaaay more trouble than he's worth now.

He's constantly leaking crap out to take the heat off himself, intentionally setting Miller and Petey against each other, and now gives an interview to simultaneously stoke the flames further while absolving himself of any responsibility. He's delusional and it's probably because he's too damn old. Get rid of him.

He'll probably just randomly decide to quit like he did in PIT, right after causing all this drama.

Correlation isn’t necessarily causation. And when looking at the games, they were against some weak teams as well.

All this argument is useless though. All you can wish for is that the trade or trades make us and surrounds Hughes better.

If you give up more goals than you score does it really matter how many points you have?

That's right it's very narrow view of things. Personal opinion, Petey not scoring, he still does more little things to help the team win than Miller does as often. The dream is still to have both around but you aren't going to get it.

Spencer Carberry outlined it post game about Petey doing those little things to help the team.
