Why did 1. Management sign these players long term; and 2. lesser why because $$ (but still why) did Pettersson/Miller sign long term?

I think he's legitimately been really good for the most part. He's been overplayed at times and the team in front of him has had a bunch of absolute no-show performances where his numbers took a beating.

He can't handle a true starter's workload but it doesn't look like Demko can either. Our best option may be to sign him and plan to have him and Demko split the workload 50/50.

Demko hasn't even show the ability to be a reliable 1B post injury.

Chances are he's absolutely cooked and you have to go on, and pick up a guy like Jake Allen to tandem with Lankinen next season.

The Vancouver Canucks are 21-24-7 without Elias Pettersson all-time.

The Vancouver Canucks are 7-7-3 without J.T. Miller since 2019-20.

The Vancouver Canucks are 30-32-10 without Brock Boeser since 2017-18.

The Vancouver Canucks have a record of 2-1-3 without Conor Garland since 2021-22.

The Vancouver Canucks have a 6-6-2 record without Tyler Myers since 2019-20.

The Vancouver Canucks have a record of 8-6-1 without Quinn Hughes since 2019-20. (edited correctly)

Damn Quinn misses a lot of games. Courtesy of stat muse.

Upon reading it again, there is also definitely some management covering its own ass in that interview ... "we had a plan and these guys ruined it."
I bet he's salty as hell that the team pulled the wool over their eyes a bit based on the teams play during the first half of last season.

They made moves during the season because they got convinced the team was further along than they initially thought.

Then the team has gone backwards this year (for many reasons).

But a lot of the reasoning also comes down to mgmt and how they dealt with not only the offseason, but the first half of this season as well.

Poor would be an understatement and there seems to be finger pointing rather than accepting even a semblance of responsibility.

the whole system is setup for players to take the bag when ever and where ever it's offered

the cba is structured to give teams an advantage in negotiating with their own players (exclusive negotiation periods, early extension windows, the extra year) which ownership and management like because it allows them to keep teams together and retain players which helps with competitiveness and marketing. agents pressure players to take the money when it's right because it's less work for them than going to market and it removes a huge amount of risk and uncertainty. players management, advisors and family push for them to take the money because of the same risks and uncertainty

also players have a lot of control over where they play even when under contract. no team wants a player who wants out lingering. you'll see this shortly with miller. they're gonna trade him even tho the value isn't there

He sounds bitter as Hell.

It’s like the management wants the fans help in driving the players out of the city, eg. stop chanting “JT MILLER” and “lets go Petey.”

I thought Quinn was the model of durability! I must've missed his 80-game injury.

Here's the explanation, I'm fairly sure: he played those few games at the end of the 18-19 season and they are including all of the other games that season.

You are right, hold on I'll be right back.

I did the same thing with Boeser but changed that one.

The Vancouver Canucks have a record of 8-6-1 without Quinn Hughes since 2019-20.

This interview doesn't impact anything -- it is purely to preempt negative fan response to an eventual lackluster trade.

Their agents have been involved in the process both in meeting with management and trying to facilitate a trade over the past few weeks.

Every single GM who has been in negotiations up to this point knows the entirety of the situation and understands the bind the Canucks are in. They didn't just open an article this morning and suddenly realize the Canucks are ripe to be taken advantage of.

The way I look at it, if its broken, fix it. I would prefer not to trade either EP or Miller, but if the coaches and management (and QH) think its broken and is affecting the overall play of the team and needs fixing, fix it...but you'd better make sure its fixed when its done...no excuses and no 5-year rebuild plans, don't Benning this shit up.

That's what I said earlier. You are genius and win a cup soon or you are Benning.

I read it as Rutherford trying to prepare the market for a poor trade return by saying “we had to do this.”

They could’ve made a trade without the leaks and gotten a much better return.

There’s no excuse for trading from a position of weakness and desperation.

Miller has 14 points in his last 16 games. He’s helping you win.

I do not want to see a trade happen until the offseason.

The whole situation is a mess.

I don't know if there has been budget cuts but PR is non existent.

Or a normal person's version of PR atleast.
JimRuth has been running the PR and it shows.

And it seems like the coach is completely untouchable and non starter for any blame. It’s all the players fault and that’s it.

Get ready to learn Buffalonese, Pettersson

When I keep reading that, the more I get the feeling, it’s not JT Miller that’s getting traded

the message is they will do what's necessary in the team's interest to thread the needle on a retool and keep hughes. whichever of petey or miller being traded makes that more possible is what happens next.

How anyone would choose to keep the toxic bully is insane to me. Even if you trade EP, JTM still needs to go. It will only be a matter of time until he bullies a different player.
