The wording. How do you not throw in something like, "both parties are committed to while still teammates to work on their relationship for the betterment of the team". Something that doesn't say that "f*** this shit, I don't care anymore"
that’s fair i guess but does it change any of the conversations? no.

something must be close fwiw

He's obviously fed up. There was some discussion on the radio speculating Allvin would rather trade Miller, while JR has never been much of a Pettersson fan and lands on the other side of the fence.
All you got to do is look where the Penguins are now and see that having old ass aging stars isn't going to win you many hockey games.

The only reason I can see for doing this is they're going to trade Pettersson, and they're getting out ahead on the damage control because they know this will be extremely unpopular with a not-insignificant portion of the fanbase.
The only reason I’d lean the other way is he implies a retool is in order and I can’t imagine planning to retool, wasting the next year or two from Miller, only to still have him for the back end of his deal.

Maybe though I can't really see a reason for doing this if you're trading Miller, as that's what everyone wants and it's pretty clear what his value is, as Bertuzzi said "It is, what it is." I guess if the return is so putrid it's borderline indefensible maybe you do this.

This wasn’t a press conference, it was an interview so he definitely wanted to say this.

He’s preparing us for a meh/bad trade return
The fans have been cheering J.T. Miller. I don't think it has much to do with the return just the fact that someone who is well liked either Petey or Miller is going to be gone. Horvat was 3rd tier favourite and a lot of fans were not happy about that. I don't think it would stop at either or, a divided dressing room more than a couple players are going to have to go. IMO.

another funny aspect of this - just days after gary mason launches a tweet downplaying (in third person) his connections to the team, he delivers the biggest canucks story in possibly years, straight from the man that no one hears from, who reports only to the owner

what are the odds that aquilini sent rutherford to speak to take the heat off of himself?

It sounds like more than a couple of players are going.

We’ve heard Petey, Miller, Boeser and Demko all discussed. And if those names are out there then I doubt guys like Soucy and Suter aren’t available.

Miller is 32 in 2025. In 2017, Bergeron of Boston was 32. They made the finals in 2019 when he was 34. But, that's having Marchand, Pasta, McAvoy, Rask, older Chara on the roster as well. Beyond Miller would be whatever the return for Petey is, Hughes, Hronek, Debrusk, Demko (questionable health), and whichever young players develop.

I hear Hector Salamanca coming...

not sure JR not being a fan of Petterson is a thing, he has talked about extending Petey as a priority since he joined.

Either way you are going to affect the entire team no matter who is traded. They are going to need to run a plan by Hughes, then he can decide the fate of the team because he's the only one that cares right now.

Miller is NOT Bergeron though. Basically the complete opposite type of player. Miller is more like Matt Duchene.

The comment that you may not even get a second line centre back seemed directed exactly at that scenario.
