3 game losing streak incoming because this team seems to just kick itself in the nuts over and over again
>Locker room problems and trade rumours plague team's morale and it shows on the ice.
>Team finally wins 2 in a row for the first time in almost 2 months.
>Everyone in a good mood post-game for the first time in a long time.
>Your boss proceeds to do an interview shitting on all of you.

Refreshing to hear the candidness of JR in that interview. On the hurting leverage question, given the reports in the media, I would be highly surprised if every GM in the league didn't already know this and maybe more about the situation. So, this is likely nothing new to them.
The fans are always the last to know...

Add: It does get rid of the speculation though. This team has made a decision to move on from the core. At least 1 and possibly 4 of Miller, EP, Boeser, and Demko are on their way out.

What's the over/under?

time to put rutherford out to pasture. he sounds like he's given up and is just gonna trade both miller and pettersson for scraps and then try to cobble together a middling team to try to convince hughes to stay
Hughes is going to need some convincing, as NJ and his brothers will come calling when the contract is up. Canucks are going to have to make a “bright future” plan to sell Hughes on re-signing as his next contract will be a long-term deal.

This owner is not going to allow anything but a retool at best.

Boy is my confidence in JR sapped!

Like, I was very weary from seeing how things went for him in PIT post cups and how much they spiralled, and was encouraged from last season which is clearly a bit of a PDO/luck mirage, but man. This just does not seem like a good way to handle things.

All this talent and millionaire players can't come together as a team.

Just pisses me off.
I’m not surprised. The management is completely inept at dealing with the situation.

Last year was amazing so you know it’s possible for the team to come together. Then the team drove over a speedbump and the management completely let off the steering wheel and planted their foot on the gas pedal.

i dunno but a plan would be nice. i just didn't expect him to sound so completely defeated
I think JR's comments were the first thing that had to be said to prepare the market for what is to come. I expect there is a plan and this is step 1 (at least publically). All the speculation has been one of Miller or EP is going, then both might go, then Demko's mad so he might go, and, of course, there was always a risk that Boeser would go.

it's unfortunate miller and pettersson both appear to be unable to put their differences aside but i think management and coaching own a lot of the blame for this whole situation. it seems like it's not a surprise to them there's an issue in the room and they appear to have done little more than appoint the problems to also be the solutions by naming pettersson and miller as assistant captains. that doesn't really give much support to hughes who is both younger and less experienced than either of them (altho marginally so in pettersson's case)

accepting that horvat wasn't part of the answer either i have to wonder why they didn't place a bigger priority on bringing in more veteran leadership to help shoulder some of the burden. arguably myers and boeser are the only guys filling that role in the room right now and neither of them really carry the reputation of someone who can settle a room. beyond that their veterans are all guys who have bounced around a lot or who have their own character questions like debrusk and hronek

the local sports media should be beside themselves that mason is getting these stories. it means there is nobody local that the team trusts with an interview like this. they'd sooner give it to a toronto newspaper. how embarrassing.

the timing is also incredible. the interview was yesterday before the game. then they played great and the players wake up to this. the effect is they are being told they can't play their way out of the situation.

in general this seems to be the last step. a trade is next. miller and pettersson would need to go to the team together to stop it. maybe that's secretly what rutherford hopes, but there is no bluffing here.

woof.

Lankanen dick riding is getting a little scary, some people are okay giving him 4 million aav when his goals saved above expected at 2.6 places him at 35th in the league - he's been about what you'd hope, nothing special, and with how year-to-year goalies tend to be, paying him that type of AAV with the term he's hoping for is just not a good idea.

I'd much, much rather do what Toronto did this year with Stolarz - target a backup that looks to have upside to his game

wild take. i think you're looking at the wrong stat. he's making the right saves, at the right time and getting Ws
