Michkov coming over early and doing well is going to make every team but Chicago look stupid in the Top 6 of that Draft.

Word going around during pre-draft interviews was that he was not meeting with some teams, ones he did meet with he said he had to play out his full contract before he thinks about coming over, and a select few teams he told he’d be over in a couple of years.

He essentially chose who would draft him.

did he pick the Flyers? or did the Flyers say "eff it we're taking the best player and we'll figure out the rest after"?

because if they're calling a player's bluff its very different.

The reports afterward were that he specifically told them he wanted to play in Philly and would be done with Russia early.

That’s the part that seems strange about the whole thing. No one seems to have any idea why he preferred Philly.
The only theory I've read that makes some sense is that he wanted to play in one of the big hockey markets. In the top 10 there was Chicago at 1 (who were always going to pick Bedard), Montreal (in Canada, French-speaking, cold) at 5, Philly at 7, and Detroit at 9. Honourable mentions I guess to Washington at 8 and St. Louis at 10.

If he wanted to go somewhere where he was a) the star of the show, b) in America, and c) not living in anyone else's shadow (Ovi in Washington) - it makes sense that he decided Philly was the place for him and conducted himself in his draft interviews accordingly.

It was quite funny when even Briere seemed outwardly confused at why Michkov was so passionate about being a Flyer lol.

Did a quick check to see if he was born in Siberia, or spent a lot of time in Siberia. He did not. This continues to make no sense.

Does not play center he is winger. If you don't play center before you get to the NHL you ain't playing center in the NHL. He does not have the foot speed to play center.
Yeah he is a slower winger. He'll end up somewhere like Anaheim, Chicago, Seattle, Detroit, Columbus, or Utah. Maybe NJ but idk how well he'd fit with them, they're a fast team.

i kind of don't believe it, feels like a 'feel good story' made up after the fact.

I get there was some terrible teams but Philly?

Montreal should have drafted him regardless.

Thought this Bruce Garrioch article was interesting.

League executives say the Senators are also scouring the market to see if there’s any interest in defencemen Erik Brannstrom and Jacob Bernard-Docker.

Veteran Travis Hamonic has a full no-move clause and likely will have his $1 million deal bought out once the Stanley Cup final ends Monday. The club would carry a $366,000 cap hit for the next two seasons if that takes place.

The Ottawa Senators have a decision to make on defenceman Erik Brannstrom.Brannstrom, a restricted free agent, requires a $2-million qualifying offer to retain his rights for free agency and the Senators are torn on whether they want to go that route.

As Postmedia has reported, the Senators have spoken to teams regarding winger Mathieu Joseph. He has two years left at $2.95 million and they would like to get his contract off the books to try to help propel a deal to acquire Seattle Kraken winger Brandon Tanev.

The club would also like to upgrade its fourth line, and if they could find any takers for centre Mark Kastelic they would make that move as well.

Plus stuff about their goalie situation, minor league players, and Chychrun.
