Seravalli: Cost for Oilers to move on from Jack Campbell could be a first and third round pick
It is more noticeable than ever that the Edmonton Oilers have a hole w...oilersnation.com
Ultimate big brain move? is to get Campbell and a bunch of assets (their 2024 unprotected 1st, more draft picks and whatever top prospects they have), flip them to get Hronek type players, have Ian Clark work his magic on Campbell.
Like f*** it, Campbell, their 2024 unprotected 1st + 2024 2nd, 2025 3rd, for DeSmith, Beauvillier, and Poolman’s contract.
The con is your stuck with Campbell but have a bunch of assets you can flip to bolster the line up and pray Clark can salvage Campbell. It would be absolutely f***ing ballsy and you’d have to convince the Oilers to part with their 2024 1st.
You can use both our own and the Oilers 1st, gain back a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get a top 3 defenseman + top 6 forward.
Interesting, although Kovacevic is signed through next season at a paltry salary so he might be the most valuable piece overall. I think I’d probably choose the Nashville package though, especially if there’s any chance of re-signing either player.Montreal: Monahan + Kovacevic
Nashville: Novak + Carrier
Which package would you be more interested in under the assumption that the Montreal one is slightly cheaper?
pre-trotz maybe. i don't think they touch him now

If that's all it cost make the deal. Holland will screw this up by trying to dump Campbell and try to acquire a new goalie in the same deal. Dump Campbell and then you have a some real cap flexibility. And then look to get the goalie that you want. But they will cheap out and get some bandaid fix and wonder why it didn't work.Seravalli: Cost for Oilers to move on from Jack Campbell could be a first and third round pick

Montreal, mostly because of Kovacevic. If he's a real player, you're getting him at $766K next season. That's the most valuable piece.Montreal: Monahan + Kovacevic

How a rebuilding team with sufficient cap space hasn’t taken Holland to the cleaners yet on a Campbell deal is beyond me.
It’s so obvious to do before changes are made in Edmonton that could derail it.
It was immediately upon being signed one of the worst contracts in the NHL, and it was obvious to many. Woof, what a huge mistake. That Campbell contract goes for another 4 years.
No rebuilding team thinks they'll still be rebuilding in 4 years (even SJ from the worst position took a worse return on the Karlsson deal to avoid paying more money 3-4 years down the road) and the realistic cost to dump that contract is probably more than Edmonton is willing to pay.
If I was a team like Chicago or Montreal I'd be asking for 3 unprotected 1sts to take that contract and I doubt Edmonton is willing to pay it.

Neither does Ken Holland.I don't know.
They mean Jeremy.Hronek-type players is my favourite buzz term right now. Like ya! We should just trade for another guy playing like one of the best dmen in the league!
Acquire another top 4 D man and get lucky with injuries come playoff timeHow does this team win the Stanley Cup in the next three seasons?
It doesn’t.How does this team win the Stanley Cup in the next three seasons?
They have to be trying. They'll never have this trio of positional standouts again all peaking nearly simultaneously. It doesn’t.
I think they should be going all in until something gives.Acquire another top 4 D man and get lucky with injuries come playoff time
