Yeah there's no real trade partners or any trade out there that can help us. Maybe CBJ, but they seem reluctant to really go into a position to sell.

At the end of the day, you needed to hope someone like Hirose, McWard or any farm product would take leaps in their development. There's really nothing of value down in Abbotsford that can help us this year.

Just have to hope the offense gets fully clicking and goaltending stays above average.

Someone mentioned Alex Carrier of Nashville recently and that’s a really, really interesting target.

27 y/o top-4 RHD who is a pending UFA and on a $2.5 million cap hit this year. Would be pretty easy to make the logistics of a deal work – Carrier for Beauvillier (retained) + Hoglander/2nd/prospect or whatever.

The thing there is that Nashville has started 7-10 and are already 5 points out of the playoffs, and their next 10 games are brutal – 10 games in 18 days mostly against good teams ahead of them in the standings. If they drop a 3-7 record or something in that stretch, their season is over and they might (and probably should) be looking at making moves.

Carrier was the guy I figured would be the return for the inevitable Garland trade.

carrier would be a great addition but i don't think nashville will take back garland (they'd probably take beauvillier but only to make the money work -- not as part of the "return"). he'll be expensive to acquire i bet

It was an entirely vibes-based hunch and nothing more. Garland feels like a Predator.

Could push for him and Novak in a larger trade.

Carrier + Novak for Beauvillier + Hoglander + 1st 2024

Build a deal around this as an aggressive move to win.

some contender is gonna give up way more than that for novak if nashville don't extend him. he's gonna cost a fortune

Yep. Novak is also going to be the guy whose July 1st contract is going to elicit the most raised eyebrows from casual fans. He'll get Compher/Barbashev money *at least* without nearly the name recognition. He'll be worth it tho.

Anybody have any insight on Parayko? Sounds like he’s having a good year. Would be a super risky aquisition and that contract probably gets real ugly at some point, but maybe it’s worth it if you’re confident he can be a top 3D for the front half of his deal? I’m surprised at how inconsistent he’s been. He looked like an absolute stud when he was first breaking into the league and playing behind Pietrangelo.

would love him on the team. That said, I"m more worried about the asking price.

What would everyone here think about trading Garland for Cody Glass? I don’t know if Nashville would go for it or not. Glass is struggling this year but has 1 less year than Garland at 2.5.

I’m all for going after Carrier

i think parayko is exactly the kind of player the canucks should be targeting. there's some questions about his health and his contract might be really bad someday soon but st louis need to move somebody so a deal is probably workable. at 6.5m he could (almost) be fit in just by including myers in the deal. st louis would probably take back garland too and include someone like blais or scandella

it'd be a little risky but if you want to maximize the contention window of this group it's the kind of deal that should be on the table

is he good/healthy again? there was skepticism of adding assets to make oel for parayko work last year.

a physical #3, especially now that hughes-hronek is the top pairing, would be a great add. and parayko's style fits here as a second pairing guy in a structured system

Hertl still looks to have plenty of game, big contract, but might come cheap in a trade, and maybe a little retention.

Would be a wicked winger for either JT or EP, and replacement center in case of injury.

Ultimate big brain move? is to get Campbell and a bunch of assets (their 2024 unprotected 1st, more draft picks and whatever top prospects they have), flip them to get Hronek type players, have Ian Clark work his magic on Campbell.

Like f*** it, Campbell, their 2024 unprotected 1st + 2024 2nd, 2025 3rd, for DeSmith, Beauvillier, and Poolman’s contract.

The con is your stuck with Campbell but have a bunch of assets you can flip to bolster the line up and pray Clark can salvage Campbell. It would be absolutely f***ing ballsy and you’d have to convince the Oilers to part with their 2024 1st.

You can use both our own and the Oilers 1st, gain back a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get a top 3 defenseman + top 6 forward.
