I think they should be going all in until something gives.
Disagree. We should not come close to thinking we are "all in" until close to the trade deadline. What if EP, Huggy or Dems goes down in Jan? And we have already gone "all in". and traded Willander and our 1st for a decent #3 d man (rental) and cap relief and to unload beaulivier.

We are in bad shape, and have given up most of our future. Show some bloody patience, and let's see where we are at the trade DL, and see where we have deficiencies at that point.

Edit - well off to the tv. sadly, I don't have a decent lap top I can use in front of the tv, and its 2 floors from my computer from there. Ah well, I will respond to all the criticism at the end of the 1st.

I mean in general. Try to get impact pieces. Not rental types. We need more top of the lineup players to help our lynchpins.

There is still the realities of the salary cap to deal with. Myers, Beauv, Cole, Bleuger is $15 mill in cap costs this year. Plus say $4 mill in cap increase. That's $19 mill. Less $2 mill increase in OEL's dead cap, so down to $17 mill. How much of that $17 mill needs to slide over to pay Petey/Hronek who currently count for like $11.8 mill? $7 million? That drops you down to $10 mill left. Need over $3 mill minimum to replace the roster spots of the 4 ufas. So, around $7 mill to upgrade the roster.

Have to find some help on D with that $7 mill.

Wildcard is whether Garland plays well enough to warrant an actual hockey trade where Van takes back a $3 mill or under contract, then they figure out if they can flip that player again for a lower cap charge. Or if Garland does not, does Boeser's resurgence give the team an option to move his $6.65 mill cap for some cap relief since he has 1 year left in the off-season? But, who puts up the goals he is giving the team.

I agree that there is no point in paying big for rentals.

How much they can do really rests upon how well Garland plays and whether Brock can continue his play to give the team options of being able to make moves.

The Canucks have gutted their 202X's drafts thanks to Benning's moves. So, no immediate help is on the way. Not Klimovich, Lekky, Wallinder, Defense Petey, etc.

They have to be trying. They'll never have this trio of positional standouts again all peaking nearly simultaneously.
They should, but they won't. Fans want the team to maximize cup chances but that isn't most management teams #1 goal

I guess I was valuing Anderson as a #3 defenseman on this team, I mean if he ends up costing more it’s still the target however a 1st and our top prospect is a steep price, looking at the value you get for top prospect and 1st picks your getting into some serious returns….. I don’t know if Anderson is THAT good, maybe it’s his contract that increases his overall trade value

I’d trade a 1st plus any prospect other than Willander for Anderson.

Need to upgrade the D and wings. I'm actually astonished how mediocre our winger depth is.

Boeser can get his points and has chemistry with Miller but he's pretty ineffective in generating his own scoring chances.

Beauvilliar is one of those players who has likely peaked in their early 20's.

Mikheyev, unfortunately is overpaid for what he brings. Would have no issues if he was making under 2.5mil. I have no idea why Allvin and JR went this route and overpaid for this guy. He's pretty much a Jannik Hansen without the grit.

Garland is simply not fit for this team, nor do I ever see him ever scoring over 50 points unless he feasts on minutes with a bottom feeder. He's pretty much getting 4th line minutes and whatever value he had in years prior is gone. It's almost to the point where you may be better off buying him out.

Phil Di Giuseppe is a total passenger on his line. Very offensively very limited at the NHL level. Thankfully can be sent to the AHL.

Canucks don't have any capspace and don't have a space forward. If Friedman is out, then Hirose draws in. Anyone else gets hurt they have to apply for emergency recall or place Soucy on LTIR. Haven't made that transaction yet so look out for that if things get dire.

Wonder why they haven't put Soucy on LTIR yet. We're already in LTIR so there's no cap benefit to not doing it. Guess it's just one of those things they don't bother doing until needed, but we are so cap tight that it seems obvious he's going to end up on it eventually.

They did the same thing last season with Mikheyev and OEL. No reason to make the paper transactions until they need to.

Ultimate big brain move? is to get Campbell and a bunch of assets (their 2024 unprotected 1st, more draft picks and whatever top prospects they have), flip them to get Hronek type players, have Ian Clark work his magic on Campbell.

Like f*** it, Campbell, their 2024 unprotected 1st + 2024 2nd, 2025 3rd, for DeSmith, Beauvillier, and Poolman’s contract.

The con is your stuck with Campbell but have a bunch of assets you can flip to bolster the line up and pray Clark can salvage Campbell. It would be absolutely f***ing ballsy and you’d have to convince the Oilers to part with their 2024 1st.

You can use both our own and the Oilers 1st, gain back a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get a top 3 defenseman + top 6 forward.
Sure, if we were going full rebuild. But we can’t have him tying up that much cap space.

Maybe they’re hoping he’ll be back sooner than expected? If he’s on LTIR believe he’s gone at least 10 games and 24 days.

Reactions: Hodgy

Chris Johnston saying that Pettersson wants to wait on an extension. Throws out the possibility of him accepting his qualifying offer. Personally, I don't think that's realistic.

Also during the segment is that the Flyers are open for business and looking to find a trade partner. Mentions Nick Seeler and Sean Walker specifically.
