Wouldn’t it make more sense to trade him at 50%? At 2.075m, he should be worth like a 3rd round pick to a team that needs a middle 6 scorer. He has a track record of being like a 35 point forward and is slightly below average defensively at worst. If the Canucks waive Beauvillier and bury him in the AHL they would clear 1.15m from the cap. So if Bear is around that range they can do a 1-for-1 swap.

If this team cannot win without the loss of 3rd pairing D man (a good one mind you), and a 3C..there would definitely have to be something intrinsically wrong. The Canucks need somebody and fast. Ever since Soucy went down to injury, the Canucks have been going into a downward spiral.
Bear would be a nice bottom pairing defenseman, but the Canucks really need someone penciled into the top 4. Bear would replace Juulsen and would fire him out of a cannon to Abbotsford, but the Canucks are really lacking depth on defense.
Injuries happen throughout the season, and if Hughes/Hronek get injured, the season is over.
Hirose looked lost last night. Juulsen looks lost every night. Irwin, Woo, not good enough. It's time for Allvin to get creative. The time is now.
This core is in win now mode. The Canucks 2024 first rounder should be available, aswell as Raty, Podkolzin, Silovs or whoever we have that may entice a team to trade away a top 4 defenseman. Would be great to see if Allvin could pull off another Hronek type deal.
Ever since the Soucy injury, Hughes and company have looked a little lost at times in their own zone. That along with a horrendous schedule, the team is getting tired. I really hope that Allvin has some tricks up his sleeve before we lose out on this wonderful season due to another injury.
Any other decent defensemen out there on expiring contracts?
They dont respect their Edlers..Dhaliwal already said the Canucks have no interest in Edler
Yes to carrier if cheapI was looking through the upcoming defenseman free agents list. There are a few names that we knew and talked about that are upcoming free agents. Hanafin, Tanev, Pesce, Demelo, Forsling, and Zadorov. Then others such as Skjei, Montour, Barrie, Gostisbehere, De Haan, DeAngelo, Walker, Dumba, Dillon, Klingberg, Brodie, Schultz and Muzzin, were the more notable ones on the list.
One player who intrigued me was Alex Carrier of the Nashville Predators. He is a bit small 5'11 174, but has a righthanded shot. Carrier is relatively young (27), which fits into our cores age, and I also believe he has a lot of untapped scoring potential. Carrier was a scoring defenseman in Juniors, but at NHL level he's become a pretty solid defenseman at both ends of the ice.
I would love if Allvin picked up Carrier in a deal with the Predators. I think he could be a steal, just like Hronek.
Hughes Hronek
Soucy Carrier
Cole Bear
Friedman Myers
On player off radar that I could see become available is Dobson. I think the islanders are poorly constructed and if they continue to struggle it might be time for them to make some significant changes. I think they have some very valuable assets to they could use for a refresh. It would cost a fortune and probably Willander and Lekk as well as a first (probably too much, but I know it would hurt). But that is kind of situation where we might find the unicorn with an affordable contract that would really help this team. It would totally depend on if the islander did a deep cut rebuild (certainly doesn’t line up with the Horvat trade) or just a refresh.
This is the dream scenario and if he was available it would cost too much, I don’t know how he signed a 2 x 4 million dollar contract he would be cheap for the next year and then he would likely getting what Hronek is set to getOn player off radar that I could see become available is Dobson. Am I crazy to think Laine is worth kicking tires on? He's the same age as Boeser, and we are seeing how he has bounced back.
Beauvllier and Garland 9MI’ve kicked around the idea in my head. The term isn’t bad with only two seasons left after this one. 8.7m is extremely prohibitive and would need to find a way to get that down. I wouldn’t be willing to give up anything if real value either and I assume the Blue Jackets would scoff at that idea.
…………Beauvllier and Garland 9M
for Laine 8.7M
or
Beauvllier and Garland and Hoglander 10.1M
for Laine and Jiricek 9.6M
or

for Laine and pick 8.7M

Not at all interested in Laine. Big cap hit, complete one-way player. Would need too much sheltering at 5v5 and there's no obvious spot on the PP1 for him right now.I’ve kicked around the idea in my head. Why Laine,,the guy spends more time on IR,then he does on the ice.Not what we need.I think the biggest issue is that acquiring Laine would have to be treated as a taking on cap deal, where he isn't worth his current contract. We would have to send cap back like Garland and Beauvillier.
Columbus will have no interest in any sort of deal where Laine is treated as a low value asset. We'd be looking at giving up premium assets and then additionals for them to take our cap players
The problem with that is that the claim was the Canucks would clear $1.15 million in space by burying Beauvilier, but with the Canucks having accrued no cap space, you can't take the entire amount for Beauvilier off the Canucks' cap while only taking a prorated share of Bear's contract. If you're going to consider prorated amounts, you have to prorate both, which leaves the Canucks over the cap if they bury Beauvilier and sign Bear.He likely will be in that range since it would be like a 1.5m contract but prorated
