Where do you think they'll open up the $2-$2.5M it will take to sign him?
I’d be looking at trading Beauvillier retained to get the cap space if it was up to me.

The question becomes would anyone want him? Or will it cost assets to trade him, even with 1-2M retained?

Does Beauvillier and Juulsen on waivers clear any cap space? Even if they go unclaimed?

If the Canucks waive Beauvillier and bury him in the AHL they would clear 1.15m from the cap. So if Bear is around that range they can do a 1-for-1 swap.

Ok perfect. I would do this than trade assets to clear him.

He likely will be in that range since it would be like a 1.5m contract but prorated

This is madness, even if Bear costs that little. I assume they'll move Beauvillier for basically nothing. But I think they actually like Beauvillier and have tried not to move him unless forced (ie. when Garland proved immovable), so I'm not sure they'll just throw him away. Maybe to swap in Bear.

We really need to stop thinking about trading with Calgary or anyone really within the division. We are 2nd right now, outside of SJ, nobody in the division is going to want to make us better even if they win the trade.

Waiving him gives any team the option to take him for nothing. Most have no cap space though

I just don't think you waive a NHL contributor for non-performance reasons just to sign someone mid-season. I doubt Beavillier, the PA, or his agent would be particularly pleased with that. I'm not sure it's realistic.

Whatever you think about Beauvillier he certainly hasn't played himself out of the line-up by virtue of his competition.

This is a real whirlwind of a post.

I think they are waiting to move him around the TDL because that is when his value is going to be the highest. Nobody wants a 4M middle 6 winger. There is no way we could’ve traded him in the offseason without retention.

I get what youre saying and he hasnt gotten favourable bounces this year but he is currently the odd one out for forwards. He would still get his full salary and other teams have the chance to scoop him for free

Dhaliwal says there is mutual interest in Kessel (to be used in case of a top six injury, 13th forward). I can't imagine much more then veteran league minimum, but maybe I'm wrong. This guy loooooooved playing for Tocchet, and has connections with Ruthervin.

Bear is coming along, and it seems likely there will be a signing there, short term and likely cheap as a "show me" contract. 1 year for sure, 1.5-1.75 would be where my money lands if he's good to go. Keep in mind his cap hit will be prorated. Potentially 3 months into 7 months of the regular season means he will have a lower cap hit then what ever he is signed for.

There have been a few fan proposals on CapFriendly that are willing to take on Beauvillier in hopes he bounces back, even offering picks and/or AHL players or prospects back. I like Beau, and would rather keep him, but if we don't want to clear salary via waivers or AHL assignments, his salary would more than cover what we need, and leave a little nest egg for the deadline.

Unless Hirose really, really impresses, I'm happy to let him cook if we sign Bear. Also, Juulsen seems like a no-brainer to demote. Friedman is cheap and useful enough to keep as our 7-8 guy. Lafferty, Hoglander, Blueger, Suter, Joshua and Garland is a solid bottom six, and I'd rather not sacrifice any of them for cap.

I don't think we need to trade anyone to make this work.

Didn’t Pittsburgh last TDL put a couple big cap players on waivers? It cleared cap for them to make other moves.

It might not be popular, but it can happen.

Im wondering if they should waive him just to see if we have any takers. I don’t think they have because they are worried he will be claimed. I easily could be wrong, but we sure could use the cap space. Unless they feel he has value and are trying to use him as a trade chip, but he is playing on the fourth line and we need to upgrade the defence group asap.

On player off radar that I could see become available is Dobson. I think the islanders are poorly constructed and if they continue to struggle it might be time for them to make some significant changes. I think they have some very valuable assets to they could use for a refresh. It would cost a fortune and probably Willander and Lekk as well as a first (probably too much, but I know it would hurt). But that is kind of situation where we might find the unicorn with an affordable contract that would really help this team. It would totally depend on if the islander did a deep cut rebuild (certainly doesn’t line up with the Horvat trade) or just a refresh.

Rasmus is definitely the top choice but tanev would still be a huge boost for this current team, even if he's lost a bit of a step. Maybe he's slower but he's still solid defensively, and the off ice factors are hugemassive.

Calgary has a few dman upgrades we could use to solidfy the top six, something like 1st garland beau myers hirose pod klim for tanev@50% and andersson, hanafin and weegar.
That proposal is like offering a mixed bag of good and slightly more bad for them solving all of our problems.
