Going with the Vancouver Grizzllies' colours for this one.

Half-jokingly, I guess we know the date Bear will sign.

Grizzly...Bear...Ethan...Bear...it's right there people.

Nice salish logo, they really should have gone outside the Sparrow family for the design this year though hahah

Another RHD option I like is Will Borgen from Seattle.
Yes. I was thinking about Borgen yesterday for RH defence options.

I think it would be a tough swing to get him traded to VAN. But if Seattle's season goes off the rails, he is a very nice piece they might sell. Signed for another season at a decent AAV.

Underrated aspect of Garland's game is his ability to draw penalties. He ranks 36th(and leads the Canucks) in the league amongst regular skaters in penalties drawn per 60 mins at 5v5 since the 21/22 season(min 1000 mins played at 5v5)

Joshua ranks 37th
Pettersson ranks 42nd

Next highest Canuck is Hoglander at 125th

Penalty drawing should be even more valued by the Canucks compared to other teams.
Good note you pointed out there.

I think the 3rd line would be far less effective in general if Garland were swapped with one of the Canucks other depth forwards.

Make that the permanent logo. Can stick with the current colours but that's a damn nice update on the logo.

I'm pro-Salish art representation in all ways all forms but this one is a bit of a busier example. Too much going on and it doesnt scale well for a logo. Love the colours and the concept though. Chase Grey's last year was great but also got a bit too busy towards the bottom.

They also didnt change the original logo enough, redo it your own style instead of draw over it

I love that they talked about and went into the specifics on Salish design ideology though

What I would f***ing love to see is them let a Salish artist like LessLIE go at it, who is a pure genius of simplicity, proportion, and form. He would tackle the logo's silhouette and come up with something brilliant. lessLIE Sam - Stonington Gallery

He actually did a painting titled "Culturally Correct Canucks" that was featured in a 2017 show at the Bill Reid Gallery, taking a jab at the cultural appropriation in the current logo.

The above left is the design, using the same logo silhouette but reinterpreting it within Salish design ideology. I think everyone gets caught up on the tail part where the whale is crashing through the ice. The crescent pattern is nice but the trigon and eye in the corner makes it too busy. Need to keep it simple and so many artists are getting overwhelmed with the space.

Haven't scrolled through to see if anyone else has said it, but this was a tidy piece of GM work. It's refreshing to see our management on the ball, see the situation in Chicago and make a nice move quickly because of it. I don't know if a d man is lined up but they now have the space if the situation arises.

i think they are being patient and doing their homework before pulling the trigger on aquiring that d-man. maybe it happens before the roster freeze in december or in the new year.

I know that the circumstances for the Beauvillier trade are unique, but I think Myers has been the better player this year and he plays a premium position while making less than 1/4th of what Beauv did. Considering we got out of his entire ticket and gained an asset, I really cannot envision us not being able to facilitate a deal that sees us move Myers out and get a better D back.

I just wonder if there is a world where we can pull off a Horvat trade and send Garland back similar to the way we took Beauvillier. There's a hesitancy around the league to move 1sts, and if we are one of the few, I think that's where I might be looking.

Now you have some space, go after Provorov instead of Peeke.

Hopefully they have soured on him enough to move him already given where they are in the standings.

Good cap hit for only 2yrs.

Yes he’s a LHD, but think he could turn things around in Van’s system.

Send some cap the other way to sign Bear as well.

We should definitely be looking to make a bold Hronek type trade.

We don't need to go "all in" this season as that might be a bit premature, but I wouldn't be upset if our first round pick + a blue chip prospect (or whatever) was used to grab a #3d with a bit of term.

I don’t know what you are saying, but if its the whale logo. Its 100 times better then any other whale logo.

It might be my favourite Canucks logo but I don’t want to sound like Im simping and trying to be super progressive.

6. Vancouver created cap room trading Anthony Beauvillier to Chicago. The Canucks are going to scour the market for defence; some names you’ve heard, some we haven’t considered. Ethan Bear is possible, too, although he won’t be ready to play until closer to Christmas. The Conor Garland sweepstakes slowed down because he’s played well, there’s no longer as much of a salary crunch and another right-shot, Andrei Kuzmenko, is struggling. As Rick Dhaliwal reported Wednesday, the Canucks are not interested in moving their first-round draft pick.

If Bear ends up coming for around $1M, that’s a big win for us, and still leaves room for additional moves. Getting Bear and Soucy back on D would be huge.

Team really misses Soucy - I read somewhere that was playing the hardest matchups/minutes but I can't seem to find the source. He's just so solid you don't notice him much when he's in but when he's not in the lineup - it shows

I would, of course, be happy to move Myers for the right deal… largely involving cap space for an upgrade.
At the same time, though, I don’t want to move him just for the sake of moving him. He’s useful in a lower minute, depth role. I just want him pushed back down the chart again.

I like everything but the pick portion. I'm fine holding out until closer to the TDL to see where we are but if we get through this upcoming Christmas stretch with a solid record then pitch that pick into the sun and let's go for it.

Granted, if we could do a quiet low pick deal for Tanev something, I'm all for that too.

That just feels like posturing to me. Right now the Canucks are clearly looking to add a defenseman, but they don’t want to give away their most valuable trade asset for this deal.

I believe they are fully prepared to use their 1st, but they are going to save it for when the right deal comes to them—rather than floating that their 1st is out there just to acquire some journeyman.

Really hoping the team is aiming higher than Ethan Bear. As a depth defenseman, sure...but the ultimate goal needs to be a marked improvement to the defensive core, and that's not Ethan Bear.
Agree that they should aim higher than Bear to fix their defense. IMO, if he were to be signed, it’s to be part of the ten NHL-caliber defenseman that you need to make a playoff run. Signing him for 1.0m/1y should be a no brainer.
