In a Minnesota trade scenario, it's worth noting that Podkolzin was a pick that Judd Brackett apparently pushed very hard for.

Also there are still a few other Brackett picks lingering in the system, although most (Aiden McDonough as an example) wouldn't carry much value.
That’s true. Personally, I wouldn’t give up Podkolzin for that specific trade but rather in a larger trade with our more valuable pieces to acquire a top 4 defenseman.

In reality, trading with Minnesota would be to add depth, they don’t really have many valuable pieces and the ones that are valuable aren’t for sale or too expensive. The main idea is to trade Garland for a player with similar term and money but improves the makeup of this team/is a better fit.

Another RHD option I like is Will Borgen from Seattle.

I still want Hanifin
getting rid of beauvillier is good but getting rid of garland would be so much better. beauvillier was a problem that solved itself this offseason. garland is gonna be a problem for two and half more seasons

i like that they cleared cap space but they need to put it to good use now. if they just sign bear and kessel or something i'm gonna be pretty meh on this move
Even if they just sign Bear its a big win.

But I agree that I would much rather they now try to acquire a top four defnesemen and dangle their first round pick next year if need be.

Garland is an off season move. To a lower level team who doesn’t want to hand out a 4-6 year term on a middle 6 type guy at similar money.

But still need him to play well enough to entice a team to want him.

yeah i'm not saying oh they should have traded garland for a 5th instead of beauvillier i just mean trading beauvillier doesn't really mean they can afford to hang onto garland

Yes to both duhaime and of course mr. Middleton

What an interesting proposal I say yes
Hartman is a top C for Minnesota! He has c which just kicked in! Wild aren’t taking in any cap dump or wings when they have less than zero cap! Wild aren’t rebuilding or reloading as they are trying to make playoffs by firing their coach. The 1st round pick would be for Middleton alone!

I love Garland's motor and his intensity. He's pretty active at hounding the puck on defense. But he just isn't fast enough, or skilled enough to live up to his contract. He's not a sniper, he likes to hold the puck and make the play, but his passes dont' connect at a rate that justifies his role as the playmaker. He's a play driving third liner, imo. Still, I don't see our third line being as effective without him.

Pearson and Beau gone, we can't just keep punting wingers without a top 6 replacement.

Another Kuzmenko winger and a Tanev level Dman, this team will be looking legit.

Hartman as your top C is the problem there. Middleton is certainly not worth a 1st round pick alone.

No he’s not! He plays 2c/ 3c! Eriksson ek is total stud and Minnesota best c but doesn’t play 1C like ever
not in terms of lineup spot, in terms of actual ability. Sometimes the Avs play Rantanen on L2, doesnt make him their 2nd best RW.

Sometimes they play him at center, the more you know

Can we just trade a 1st for Rasmus Andersson?

Would CGY accept?

Going with the Vancouver Grizzllies' colours for this one.

Half-jokingly, I guess we know the date Bear will sign.

Grizzly...Bear...Ethan...Bear...it's right there people.

i don't see that at all. He's been healthy scratched 19 times by a bottom 3 team in the league and has 2 more year after this season at an extremely unpalatable cap hit. Horrible target.
It depends on what we give up if it’s garland we add a nice chunk of cap space while adding depth to the right side.

Moving Garland this season is definitely less of a priority now that they’ve reallocated Pearson’s and Beauvillier’s salaries. Even if they were to trade him now—they’d probably be clamoring to add a two-way middle-six forward like him again at the deadline.

But he’s still an awkward fit into next year’s forward salary allocation. One of Garland, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, or Boeser probably needs to leave in order for the team to acquire enough cost-efficient depth at forward again. Joshua, Lafferty, Blueger won’t be as affordable and there’s no guarantee they will be back.

IMO the go-forward plan with Garland is probably to give him all the opportunity to succeed this year and see if the off-season market improves next year (again).
It will be Garland that goes out of that group, and if you can trade him now you do. The bottom 6 is good and somewhat good, your right we would miss him, but I would rather use the money in the top 6.
