With Zadorov having asked out, is there a Myers for Zadorov trade that works in some form?
interesting idea. calgary is the kind of team that would sign myers next even if he wasn't a canuck and they do have spots to fill next year. calgary is close to kelowna where myers lives. flames have just over $2.286m in cap space which is almost exactly enough space to take myers if zadorov went the other way.

one giant for another to facilitate re-signing both for next season might just work and vitiate the no trades in a division rule.

Typically the GM will/want to address the media here and there as an informal state of the union type of thing, a transaction like this gives them a good reason to hold one.

Not to mention GM's are usually more willing to do media in general when their team has a good record, less chance of being grilled.

they have until december 1st to resign bear if they want. or alvin could wait longer and talk to other teams and find a dance partner for that coveted right handed dman. patience. the management team knows what they need.

Allvin probably announcing EP re-signing. Explains 40's demeanor in his post game scrum.
That would be great.

Topped only by announcing that we have traded Myers for a Dvorak at 50% and a 4th, signed Bear for $1.5m and have traded Garland and a 4th for Tanev.

Still need a winger for the Miller, Boeser line, but
It seems like that would be a good start.

Artem Zub is who I want.

Would really fit nicely in the second pairing right side.

Hughes - Hronek
Cole - Zub
Soucy - Meyers
Fiedman

I have a feeling Andrew Peeke and Bear are what’s coming.
I really don’t think they are clearing space for Andrew Peeke. The term on that contract is an albatross for Columbus.

A team might take on that big cap hit if it was only one year — but, I don’t think there is any team that takes that kind of 2.5Y risk for a player who definitely does not have a track record of deserving that salary.

He probably gets bought out by CBJ at 1/3 cost this off-season, anyways.

Calgary is managing to string out some wins at the moment. Not sure if I see Tanev going anywhere right now.
Zadorov has requested a trade but I wonder with the treatment of Kuzmenko "Same agent" will scare Zadorov off. Not sure if they will trade within the division.
I like the idea of both players but I think Ethan Bear makes the most sense. Bear will be a free asset that won't cost an arm and leg. He is familiar with Vancouver, the only question would be is he ready?

Really hoping Allvin has some tricks up his sleeve and brings in a quality top 4 defenseman without breaking the bank. I have faith in this management. Allvin has been a godsend to Vancouver.

I really think Bear will be a Vancouver Canuck again. Hoping Myers will be gone, with another fully capable defender in to take his spot. The Canucks finally have a bit of cap flexibility to maybe maneuver something into their favor.

Can't wait to see what Allvin pulls off.

Bear is essentially just a warm body. We need a player that tips the scale on our second pairing.

Team could make noise with a impact d man on the second pairing. Need to use some picks and maybe a prospect to get that type of player.

Adam Larsson is another player who may shake loose if the Kraken are out of the playoffs. Missing a large defensive shot blocking dman.

Hughes-Hronek
Cole - Larsson
Soucy- Myers

Looks good on paper

It would all depend of what get sent back. Garland is a significantly better player, but that cap hit on the bottom 6 for a non dominant third
Line shut down Center…. It needs to go.

Haven't scrolled through to see if anyone else has said it, but this was a tidy piece of GM work. It's refreshing to see our management on the ball, see the situation in Chicago and make a nice move quickly because of it. I don't know if a d man is lined up but they now have the space if the situation arises.

i don't see that at all. He's been healthy scratched 19 times by a bottom 3 team in the league and has 2 more year after this season at an extremely unpalatable cap hit. Horrible target.

Am I in the minority or the majority when I have changed my tune and kinda wanna keep Garland

It comes down to...what choice do we have? Spend assets to dump Garland's contract while potentially taking some salary back? And for what? Teams are reluctant to sell off their D unless it's for a major overpayment. You also have the 2024 UFA D class which either comprises of slow aging guys or players that will get overpaid with term.

Garland is still a viable top 9 winger, an NHL, who is unfortunately overpaid...but chipping away at depth is not a good strategy unless you know with certainty that improvements can made in other positions while backfilling the forward spot with a decent NHL capable player.

No, Bear is not an RFA. There is no deadline to sign him.

Agree that Zub would be excellent, but there are almost no circumstances where Ottawa trades him.

I just don't want Zadorov.
You keep him as long as you viably can until he is a true roadblock and improving the team. He plays very very well in this system
Agreed, this was my thinking basically for the past year+. Garland is a contributor to the team and can drive a 3rd line. Considering they wouldn't get anything back for him, there's no reason to deal him unless they really need a large amount of cap space for a big upgrade.

I was saying basically throughout the summer that Beauvillier should have been the obvious trade candidate and Allvin has now made the correct move there.
